Front End Question?

why does GM use torsion bars over coils on their HDs? i noticed ford and dodge run coils is there an advanatge to either?

So you can crank up the front end to accomodate a plow for one. Ford used to use leaf springs but switched over to coils in 04-06?

I haven't been under any thing other then GM trucks in quite a while, I don't know what there set up is.

 

We use torsion bars in hd apps because the way they are set up they carry alot more load because the sprung weight is spread over a large area instead of resting on a small spring.

i think one of the reasons ford doesnt use leaf springs in the front anymore is because it cuts down on the turning radius, less room to turn the wheels, the only thing i dont like about GM IFS in the bigger trucks is that you can snap the torsion bars, ive seen it happen at the sled pulls a couple times b4, but most people dont ever pull a load big enough to bring the front end up and snap the torsion bars lol.
