T Loz Posted December 4, 2009 Posted December 4, 2009 Is there a "Valet" function to this remote...I would like to leave the truck running without the keys in the ignition when I have to make a quick stop to go to the corner store etc. It get darn cold up here in Canada...
redsled2007 Posted December 4, 2009 Posted December 4, 2009 A "valet" function? No. You could turn it off, get out, hit the lock function, then the remote start. This will give you 5 minutes. But you probably already know this.
09Jimmy Posted December 4, 2009 Posted December 4, 2009 I was excited to have the remote start function on my new truck but disappointed in it's performance. It has a range of about 100 yards max, with a clear line of sight. The aftermarket ones have a range of 2000 - 2500 feet. The factory unit has a safety feature I found out about. A day after I installed my longtube headers the remote start wouldn't work. I wondered what I could have done to screw it up since I didn't disconnect any wires or anything. Turns out, it was because the check engine light came on due to catalytic converter ineffiecency. I disconnected the battery to clear the codes and the remote start worked fine until the check engine light returned. I have had the codes shut off with my tune now and the remote works as it should. I guess it is a safety feature so you can't run the vehicle unattended in case of a major problem like loss of coolant etc.
uh6tdrvr Posted December 5, 2009 Posted December 5, 2009 yeh, but as you said, its a good thing. i wouldnt want it to sit and run with all of the antifreeze or even worse, the oil on the gound. Custom tune will take care of that code and apparently REALLY wake it up to. What and how do you like your headers? BTWm anyone have the factory long range keyfob?
AK FiveO Posted December 5, 2009 Posted December 5, 2009 Valet function? Yeah, heres how it works... When you get to the corner store, just shut-off the truck as normal. Then, after you get out and close the door ...useing the remote fob, hit the lock button once, then push the start button. It should run long enough for your stop. It'll keep the truck nice and warm. Locked and secure too! Anyway, thats how it works here in Alaska ...LOL!

allterrain08 Posted December 7, 2009 Posted December 7, 2009 I have a carabeaner for a key chain that climbers use. I have my fob and house keys on 1 ring and the truck key on another. When i want to leave my truck unattended with it running I just unhook the fob and house keys from it. And yes I know all someone has to do is pop the locks to steal my truck but i don't like to think about that lol.
