I'm saving up for a Fab Fours or Road Armor front bumper so I'm interested in what the logic is. When I get the bumper, I'm sure as heck not putting the air dam back on.

i always wondered the same thing, but i took it off my truck when it only had 15,000 on it cuz it was hanging down after i went offroading, havent put it back on since and i have round 84,000 miles and havent had any problems yet from it not being on as far as i know.

I took the lower 3" plastic piece off of my bumper within a week of buying my truck in October. The piece scraped on a regular sized curb in a parking lot. 4wd trucks should not hit the curbs with the bumpers!

I bought my truck used and it was missing. I see a few scratches under the bumper which leads me to believe that the damned dam is on the side of the road somewhere.

I agree with Bob, 4x4 truck bumpers should not hit the curb. Need minimum 12 inches of clearance underneath the bumper on a 4x4 truck, otherwise it's just another car.

 In fact, I went out one day to remove it, and couldn't find it. Looking at the pictures from the dealer web site, it wasn't there then. There was one screw still on the bumper . . . I'm guessing curb/parking lot encounter

I can't see any problems with it being gone. I suspect I have a minute drop in mileage as a result. :dunno:

I had mine off for about 6 months.

It really looks mean with out it man. If I could have had something half the height of the plastic valance I would use that...but the hooks are a little too exposed for my liking. I really like how it looks from a side profile with it off though. The bumper looks like a bumper...not a snowplow.

I have an 03 Silverado BTW.

I did the same thing to mine the day I got it.

On the truck it's probably more a mileage thing, however on many cars it's needed to get air to the radiator. Many cars will run hot without it.

i've heard the motor needs some sort of feed direction of air thus the air dam, but i think thats a terd sandwitch with a side of bs..the intake sucks off the passenger side fender not under the truck so wtf...i may take mine off, how big of a pain is it to remove?

i'm really thinking about taking mine off, being its a 2wd it is like a frickin plow when the snow starts flying

I ve always heard it was a mileage thing. Something to do with air flow under the truck. Was told you would lose 1 or 2 mpg's if you take it off.

Yes, but it's more likely .1 to .2 MPGs.

My manual says to take it off for off roading only. It say's the engine may run too hot without it. I dont have proof one way or th other.
