Ordered Wrong Factory Navigation

Recommended Posts

Hey guys first post here on this forum.

I just bought a 2009 Sierra Denali with the factory navigation. However, I just realized there are 2 different navigations, same price, just one plays DVDs and the other does not. Well guess which one my truck has?

Does anyone know if there is a way I can swap out my Navigation? They are the same price. Why would GM do this? I was so psyched about having a DVD player and now I am a little dissapointed.

Welcome! Your best bet would be to auction off your current unit, and then buy a DVD compatible navigation system.

You do know that you can't watch DVDs while you drive unless you get it unlocked, right?

I thought DVD Nav only was available with Rear Seat Entertainment and that was the extra cost.

That's what I thought also. I think the DVD function on a Non Rear Seat Entertainment model is just for the Nav Disk to work.

IMO, I wouldn't bother with it.

I put in an aftermarket DVD Nav system in my silverado and wired it to override the DVD safety feature (vehicle needs to be in park to watch DVD's) Well I haven't watched a DVD in mine parked or driving since it got it. It is a cool feature but for the amount of times I would actually use it, it is not worth the trouble.

Probably that is the case from the factory. I added factory NAV to my '08 Sierra though, and the unit I bought off eBay does play DVD movies on the screen in the dash (only when in park) without having the rear seat entertainment package.

Frankly, you shouldn't be watching movies while you're driving anyway, so that should suffice.

I feel the same way about people who smoke or drink and drive, but they still do it anyways. With that being said, It's nice if your in the passenger seat to be able to watch stuff too, you know.
