I know this has been addressed MANY times. Installing a dorman int steering shaft vs the gm replacement. All the new gm ones look like all they did is tighten up the specs and add a seal to hold the grease in....dorman claims they have a better replacement. napa, advance auto, oreiley, autozone all carry it fyi. Napa is the cheapest at 62 dollars NPS 73061 dorman # 425-176 the gm replacement is the 19153614 and is between 50-100 bucks depending on where you buy it.

My family has had 6 of these trucks considering I just bought a new one and havent had one for 4 yours im glad there's aftermarket fixes. Dorman has a "double D" slip to it and gms is splined.

Will post some pics of removal and installation along with results tonight or tomorrow.

I have about 1K miles on my Dorman replacement shaft. Was the first thing I did when I bought the truck. So far so good. I normally would have preferred a factory part for this but since so many of them were full of fail, I decided to go this route. If the Dorman ends up failing, I think I'll just do the grease fitting mod to either the Dorman or the old one.
