Hood Open Message?

I've been getting an intermittant "Hood Open" message on the driver information center. It goes away after a couple seconds while driving. Also, when it's parked and locked, the alarm has went off a couple times when I know no one is messing with it. I think it's the same thing.

 

I tried beating on the hood to duplicate it, to no avail. Just wondering if anyone else is having this issue. It's an 08 Silverado. Thanks!

Same thing on an 08 Avalanche - alarm would go off after sitting in the sun more often then getting hood opening message. I believe there may be a TSB out on it. Dealer didn't believe me until I left it with them parked out front in the sun. Early afternoon alarm went off. Hood switch replaced under warranty.

I'd say find the switch that activates the trouble and raise it up. I don't have a GMT900, so I can't tell you were it is at. I have had funny shit like that happen with a brand new truck and cruise control. Hit a bump and the cruise would drop off. Small adjustment of the switch (brake pedal switch) and I was all set. I would suspect the same type of situation with your truck. Hopefully someone can pipe in here.

I believe the switch is part of the hood latch assembly. And no go on adjusting brake pedal switches on these new trucks, brilliant move on their part.

Man that does suck, so they make you replace the whole mechanism. Wow.

your just not using the right tool to adjust it....with a big enough hammer you can adjust anything.

 

Seriously though...thats a pain in the ass. Have a look at the hood....see if the gaps are aligned all the way down the sides...could be a little out of alignment and not hitting the switch just right.

 

You could also give the little rubber bumpers at the front corners of the upper rad support a half turn down and see if that fixes it.

Mines being replaced under warranty right now. I haven't seen the parts list yet but it sounds like they are replacing the hood latch/switch assy.

 

I only have a few thousand miles left on the BTB warranty so it's just in time.
