Plastic Bedliners

I have always had plastic bed liners, cause the trucks had always came with them when purchased. Ive taken them out before and cleaned underneath them and have NEVER seen any rust issues. Of course these where both gmt800 trucks. I like plastic liners cause it absorbs impact much better in my opinion. Love the look of a spray in but if you already have a plastic drop in is it worth upgrading?

I took my liner out of my 2000 silverado and there was no rust mind you i take it out once a year and spray rust proofing along all of the seems and cracks and im with you the plastic liners seem to take more impact but i do like the look of the spray in.

My dads 92 S-10 had a ton of rust with an aftermarket plastic liner. Started about 5-7 yrs after the truck was bought in 1992.

He recently bought a 2009 Canyon and it came with a bedliner. He took it out and got a Rhino liner.

I had a drop in liner in my 92 Sierra for 17 years. Never pulled it out once until I sold it when I bought my 09 Sierra CCSB. There was not a speck of rust, only a little paint burn and no dents in the bed. I put another drop in liner in the new 09.

Only an 8 track tape lover would ever buy a plastic bed liner for a newer truck. There are much better options out there for the last 15 years.

Opinions vary.. :rollin:

My last truck was a 93 Chevy Cheyenne, very basic work truck. I had it for 8 years, until i upgraded. I picked up an aftermarket liner for it when i first bought it and when i traded it in, the dealer pulled the liner to have a look. As someone else mentioned, not a spec of rust, just some paint burn. Two thing that annoyed me about it. First was that it would hold water (truck rake, and no drain holes in the liner). It never occured to me to drill some holes up front to match the factory holes in the bed :). The second, it was an over the rails liner and in the summer heat, the side rails would warp and i'd have bumps. My '04 has the factory sprayed in liner. Only had it two years so far. I like the look of the sprayed in liner better but other than that, they both seem to do there jobs.

My 93 has a gm duraliner in it since new. There is a little surface rust at the end of the bed where the liner ends and rubs. I need to clean it up but it is by far nothing major.

I had a line-x liner in my 07. I liked it for the most part but it was expensive. I decided on a drop in for my 09 and I'm happy with that decision.

I don't have any liner, ruff kote, tuff coat or whatever they're called these days. The bed's galvanized steel. It's very resistant to rust. I just throw stuff back there all the time. It's got some scratches but I don't care. It's a truck. The truck bed is where you haul stuff.

Check out a DualLiner, I bough one off another member. I work in the construction industry and beat the hell out of this thing, drag rolls of wire mesh over it, throw 30lb nail stakes in the bed of the truck..etc, still looks new and no dents in the bed. The bottom portion of the liner is similar to a bed mat, it is slightly raised off the bed to allow water to drain out underneath it. Also, it comes out in 2-3 minutes if you ever want to clean behind/underneath it. Don't really see why you would ever need to though.

From what I've seen the aftermarket, especially the over the rails liners seem to wear into the paint a little more (not sure why). Between my dad and I we have had 6 GM drop in liners and never had a big issue with rust. We did see a little tiny bit of surface rust on a white 01 which suprised us a little since white is the heaviest paint.

My 05 had a linner put in it the day I bought it from the dealer, 2 years later I took it out to inspect and it only had light scufs and I do use my bed. Because I'm a little over protective I did a light spray in liner let it setup good for about a week then dropped by plastic liner back in onto of it. 3 years later and no rust, no scufs, scratches or the like. Yup it's overkill but I plan on keeping it and for $100 in material it was a good exercise.

My truck came with a plastic one, and I would take it out but it is over the rail and has wore the paint on the top edge of the bed, so it stays. Other then that I take it out once a year and clean under it real good. only thing i dont like is that whoever but the liner in thought it would be a good idea to use 4 sheet metal screws across the back to hold it down. So now i have 4 small holes in the back of the bed.
