3-4 Shift

After the vette servo install, i am wondering if there is a way to firm up the 3-4 shift. Is there an aftermarket 4th apply piston i could buy to achieve this or am i totally off base. Or does the 4th apply have nothing to do with the 3-4 shift? In a perfect world i imagine a ten dollar part to pop in there.

Yeah, ive been checkin the blackbear thing and he doesnt come near me anytime soon. Although i could do the mail tune but i need to do some more research on this. Still not fluent in tune talk.

there's a different 4th apply piston, Here's a link to one on ebay, there are other companies that sell them too, but the aren't near as cheap as the vette servo, i guess because they have a different cover, and most of the ones I saw were billet

The 4th hold servo goes in the servo cover.

 

I have the Sonnax 4th hold servo. It comes in its own billet cover that replaces the stock cover.. It has 40% more holding power. I put it in for towing a camper. I am going on my 5th year with no issues. It cost more but you get what you pay for... I'm not sure if 11% is worth it.

Was your stock pin fine with this or did you need a new one?

Stock pin works fine. The Sonnax 4th hold works with the stock 2nd servo or the Corvette servo. You only need a new pin when you go with a 2nd super servo.

 

Note: The Sonnax "Super Hold" Servo is compatible with all original equipment 2nd gear piston

assemblies. If any other type of 2nd apply piston is used, clearance for the outer diameter of the

Sonnax steel washer over the full travel of the apply pin must be verified.

You will have to shim the heat shield out a little to clear the sonnax billet cover. It sticks out a little further than the stock one. I used a couple of washers. Yeah its hard to hold the washers under there and put the bolts through the heat shield. A little thick grease to hold them in place will help.

 

Remember if a crusty old geezer can do it, you can.

I'm running both Sonnax servos and the Sonnax pin with no issues. The pin's material is hardened chromeoly and the ports on the pin offer additional lubrication benefits compared to the stock pin. These have been a big upgrade in shift quality from just the Vette servo and stock 4th servo that I initially ran in this same truck.
