Hey guys i recently posted about the body lift on my Sierra z71. I just have a few more questions. Does anyone know how a 3" would effect gas mileage. Also how difficult is it to install one yourself if you dont have a lift or impact wrench. I am leaning towards the summit lifts because of price but the local off road shops want to charge like 300 to 400$$$ for instalation.

It's not the body lift that effects the gas mileage, is the larger tires people tend to put on the truck that effects the mileage. As far as installation goes, it's not a hard job, just time consuming. Its better to have a friend but with a little careful planning, it can be done by yourself. The key is to read the directions twice, understand what you need to do before starting. Spray all the bolts with a penetrating lube and follow the directions step by step without skipping around.

Plan on a full days worth of work to finish it up.

Good luck.

I've neve done a BL before, but based on what my local shops want to charge I would have the shop you talked to do it. I've been quoted $1,000 to $1,400 just for a 1.5" BL.

Nope :banghead:

thats good to know. Would i have to jack the truck up to install? All i have is the tire changing jack. and could i losen/tighten the bolts with just an old fashioned wrench or does it require like an impact wrench?

Most body lifts involve removing the bolts attaching the body to frame (DUH!), disconnecting any electrical, extending the steering shaft, dropping the radiator, extending (I believe) the fuel filler hose, stretching the brake lines, and raising the bumpers (if brackets are included in your kit). It's been quite awhile since I did one, but if you're mechanically inclined, you can do it. Basically, raise one side of the body, insert spacers w/bolts loosely tightened then repeat other side. Like what was said above, read your instructions carefully. If all you have is a tire iron, you'd better get some tools. Raising the body requires several strong guys, or a floor jack with wood blocks for added height.

I had a body lift done on my 01 1500 back in 02 and they did it in about five hours and charged me 632. for everything. That was a 2wd 1500 and it had a 7inch lift already it just rubbed in reverse with the wheels turn all the way, that's why I did the body lift.
