Gmt 900 Mirror ?

I'm having one on the mirrors replaced on my 2007 Silverado 1500 LTZ under warranty and the

dealer is telling me they have to paint match it. Is this correct?? Can you not just swap out the covers?

The thought of them painting anything makes me gringe...

Thanks

They can try and remove your original one,BUT....theres a good chance they will end up breaking one of the plastic tabs that hold it in place.

Strange about GM mirrors. Usually mirrors are available in the car/truck body color from most manufacturers.

fiddyguru, do not worry about them painting the mirror. I have painted a mirror on a vehicle before with a can of spray paint and it came out great - a perfect match and nobody could ever tell the difference. I buffed it with a polishing compound after it dried.

Any average body shop should be able to do a good job painting a mirror. If they cannot paint a mirror, they cannot paint anything.

+1. I've had a couple things painted and the color match was perfect and have remained looking good.

Yes,A lot of interior pieces are available painted, along with some door handles for older vehicles,as well as tailgate bezels for the GMT800 trucks,But not mirrors, mirrors have never been available already painted.

personally, if it was factory painted mirror when I bought, they would have to replace it with another painted mirror. They need to send it to the body shop to be painted. If they refuse flip to the back of the owner's manual and call GM's Customer Service and complain up the ladder until it's fixed right. They owe you a part that is a suitable replacement, one that doesn't match the vehicle is not suitable.

Any dealer would definitely paint an item if need be,We do it all the time here,The OP's concern was the quality of work the dealership would do.

Well, IF they know what they are doing, it is easy to get the cover off. Then just snap it on the new mirror. I have done it on several trucks. But if you get some new guy that does not know the trick to babying these covers off, he will break the tabs. Then you gotta paint it.

You just can't go at it with a hammer and prybar. You got to be gentle.
