Lifting Or Leveling 07 Vortec Max

I've been lucky enought to find an unreal deal on a set of like new Dick Cepek 305/55/20 to go on my 07 Vmax. I installed a RC plastic leveling kit to lift the front so that those rubbers will clear the fenders.

Not lucky this time, tires are rubbing in the back side of the fender wells quite much. I also put a 3 inch block in the back to replace the stocker so the truck is still higher in the back but how much lift can I put on my stock suspension before it could be dangerous for my joints and steering component? I was wondering if another shim on the top a the coil whould be too much and give my axels a bad angle????

And what about that 3 inch rough contry lift.. seem prety cheap to buy but I have red many bad things about it around here. I was about to buy a 4 inch lift but i saw many fine print that says not for vehicule equiped with vehicule stability controle and mine got it. Don't know where to put my head . :sigh:

Agreed, do some searching on the 1.5" Zone, I have seen several people with it, and it really looks good

1.5" will most likely the clearance you need, and its cheap and unnoticeable. The 3" body lift will definately give you the clearance you need, and its pretty damn cheap too (as far as lifting a truck goes..) but your truck will def have the body lift look to it. Some like it some dont. IF you just want the clearance and dont care about height i would go 1.5"

yeah i herd about body lifts but damn id rather no go there...no regards to anybody who use them but I think that it looks a little funky...but it should solve my problem for shure, id rather put more shim to my coils but without compromising liability of my front drive tran because my rear end sits a little higher than front...which company make those 1.5 inch body lift I only saw 3 inch on ebay...and does anyone ever had to trim on their truck to make room for tires Id like to know what to do and where to begin cause this might solve my problem too but dont want to ruin my truck.

thanks a lot boys :shakehead:

post up some pics if you've got em laying around, that way we can see what you're referring to...

If it was me, I'd go with the Zone 1.5" body lift; a lot of guys here are running that setup and have good things to say. Some will tell you that if you're going to go thru the trouble of installing a body lift, go with the 3", but if you just need a little more clearance you might find the 1.5" to suit your needs. On these trucks, the 1.5" really isnt noticeable. and the 3" (from what I've seen) isnt bad at all either.

Body lifts, particularly on GMT-900's, look good and are really one of the best ways to lift IMO. If it were me, I would go with the 3". I ran the tire size you speak of on aftermarket wheels (that are pretty close to stock specs) with a 2" leveling kit and 3" body lift and still rubbed a little. Many onlookers have been quite surprised to learn that my truck has a body lift.

Just remember, big tires and lifts KILL performance and mileage.

Not necessarily...depends on your setup of course.

I had a 94 Bronco with the 5.0L. Routinely hit the highway and got about 15-16, maybe 17 on a good day. After a 4.5" lift and 35" tires with new 4.56s it would easily get 16 IN TOWN and just over 17 on the highway at 65mph...

yeah I was starting to think 1.5 may not be looking bad but if Blackout07 you say you still rub with a 3 inch 1.5 wont help me out...and like others say i dont want to compromise performance either....got nothing to say about the babysit you give to your truck i even find it impresive...but the father in law owns a farm and im a hunter so my truck is used to its full capacities , know what i mean ...and damn i have a hard time puting in my mind that a 3 inch body lift is my solution...its just not in my religion and on the other side having to cut my frame to put a 4 inch lift isnt easy on me either ......

holly $56t it was so easy with the old 85 ...my MAX will be back from the body shop in a few days I had a few touch up to be done so as soon it gets back home ill post a few pic of my problem.

and Blackout07 no dougt your truck looks real nice

Maybe slap on a 1.5" Body Lift and break out the sawzall and start hacking away? Just depends on if you really want those 305's :shakehead:

its worth it

Amen brother!

Op, what are your concerns with a body lift?

I don't see anything wrong with a body lift. If you just want to clear the size of those tires then a 3" BL will be perfect and save you some $$. If you are really against a BL then go with a 4" rancho or something like that.

I think the BL is amazing and perfect for clearing the 305/55/20's

    • Hello hello looking forward to expanding my knowledge of the 2026 2500 HD that I just bought.   Truck has 3500 miles on it four-wheel-drive crew cab and I’m about to put a 6 1/2 inch BDS lift on it 18 x 10 -25 offset with 37’s   Already have the wheels and tires just waiting on the lift install in about three weeks   Question what surprises am I not gonna be happy with?  I’m not new to lifted trucks so I know that acceleration towing gas mileage all that is affected..   Question is those of you that have this truck this powertrain with a 10 speed Allison and have done the mods that I’m doing,,, how bad is it? Is that Allison constantly gonna be hunting for the right gear to go into? And what about towing, acceleration, fuel consumption as mentioned?    Lastly how come I can’t find any ring pinion gear set up for these axles and when could I expect to see them?   I apologize if there’s any typos I’m doing speech to text on my iPhone.
    • I've got a 2013 2500 6.0L Flexfuel. Drove the truck earlier today with no issues. Went to run an errand tonight and noticed key fob wouldn't work. Figured battery was dead, so replaced fob batter. Still wasn't working. Grabbed my other set of keys with the other fob and that one wasn't working either. So I manually unlock truck and insert key. Interior lights come on, dashboard lights up, turn key and truck starts. Turn truck off, like a moron, and try starting again. This time no crank, no click, no nothing. Lights still come on and dash lights up, but now I'm getting a service 4wheel drive, service tire monitor, etc. Check voltage on battery and Im showing 12.2v. Throw my battery charger on it and give it 15 mins and try starting again. But still no crank no start. Decide maybe its a bad battery, run to autozone grab a new one and put it in. Same issue. Disconnect battery and let it sit for 15 mins. Try again and still nothing. I had managed to roll the windows down earlier as its a humid night, but now I can't get them to roll up. Power locks are also not working now. Then randomly I try the key again, and it fires right up. Immediately I roll up the windows as we have nothing but rain forecast this week. I shut it back off wait 30 seconds and start up again. Worked a 2nd time. So turn it off, start putting things back together. Try one more time, and back to no crank no start. And now the car alarm starts going off. Had to disconnect battery and leave it that way for the night as I don't think my neighbors would appreciate my alarm going off again tonight. Any thoughts or help would be appreciated.
    • No one will care for you like you care for you. Do what you can for as long as you can. IMHO of course.
    • How about them NICKS!!!
    • Hi there.  Long time lurker, first post.    i have read the previous posts regarding the water ingress problem with this emblem.  I bought my 1500 SLT the  summer of 2025 new and after reading the MANY problems with these emblems failing I decided to install one anyways.  As per a YouTube video, I sealed ( or tried to) this sign with silicone sealant around the outer perimeter joint and the holes that were already somewhat sealed on the rear plate of the emblem.  And installed the connector assembly using dielectric grease on the connectors. The installation looked great and worked well for about 4 months……then FAILURE.  Grrrrrr…… I live in the great white north and wash my truck weekly in an automatic car wash  to keep the salt off.  Let me tell you that removing the old, failed emblem is a whole different animal than removing the OEM individual letters without removing the grill assembly. Mainly because the illuminated logo is built differently than the original letters which  you can remove the red surface lettering with a knife or some kind of blade which gives access to the tabs which hold the logo onto the grill. So I had to essentially destroyed the old emblem to remove it. Doing so killed my chance of doing somekind of autopsy on the failed , old logo.  But there was plenty of water inside when I ripped it apart.  Prior to installing the new assembly I tried it with the old harness and it works fine.   Does anyone have any insight as to where the water is getting into this emblem? I intend to seal the new logo with slow curing epoxy this time around using a syringe.  I think this newer emblem may be an updated unit which I hope GM got the vendor to fix. It has an October 2025 date on it.    If this one  fails,  I am just going to revert back to the non-illuminated letters….AFTER PULLING THE GRILL.    Any thoughts on sealing with epoxy would be appreciated. Thx!   Doug
