yes your truck does have TM (torque management). It is basiclly a way to make gm's trannys last longer. When too much power is applied the computer retards the timing and I believe it cuts it back at the torque converter too. Anybody that makes custom tunes such as Nelsons, Westers, and blackbear. They claim to get around 40-50 horse with a tune depending on what octane you choose. They also can take out the torque management, they say 80% is a safe amount to take out. So take that into consideration on how much hp GM is taking from you

just be careful, taking tm out and hammering on it will break shit....if you keep it under safe limits it will be fine...i have yet to dislike my tm, but then again i accepted the fact my truck is a truck and not a corvette

"But but but.. I am paying $50,000 for my truck it should be able to do all that stuff without needing TM! THIS SUCKS! GM SUCKS! Blah Blah Blah" Just kidding :dunno: I agree with ya, these things are not made to be driven like race trucks and GM is only doing what they feel is best to continue to provide a long lasting and dependable truck and to save $$$ down the road on potential warranty repair costs from owner abuse.

it's not so much the torque management in that scenario, as it is the PE/WOT delay that is in the stock tune calibration....

all of which can be cured with a new tune...

yep i'd rather have low repair bills and a longer truck life over a little extra get up and go...my 5.3 with all the factory tm still gets up and goes if need it to, i'm still trying to wrap my head around why people hate it so much

I have the exact same truck but with 3:73's. My truck is tuned right to the tits, 90% TM removed at WOT. It takes off like factory settings when you drive like a normal human being. Get you PE delay reset, advance the timing, run 93, hang 1st gear till 5500 RPM and 2nd till 5200. Stiffen up the shift points to your desire, the stock kickdown points are brutal too. Mine will still hit 1st at 75km/h. A few other tables you can mess with. I got heavy rims and 33's and Can beat any 5.3, I raced a vortec max he got me off the line but I cought him at about 45 mile an hour.but he had stock tuning with a lift and 35's lol. Don't try race a 6.2 tho lol. You'll get roasted....I beat a new hemi on a 30 roll and a tundra. Get a tune man...it will wake up the beast hiding inside the 6 litre!!!!

man a 4l80e can take just as much HP as an allison can just NOT near the t/q. my one buddy is runnin about 500HP tune in a duramax and it limps the tranny all the time. you cant put anymore than 80HP over factory into an allison without burnin it up. a guy that we raced in the duramax had a 2002 RCSB with a blown 6.0/4l80e runnin about the same HP on a stock tranny for almost a year never had an issue. he said hes waitin for it to blow so he can get a built 4l80e so he can pump more boost and add nitrous, but she just wont give up. the allisons can handle ALOT of torque but as far as HP about the same as a good ol 4l80. i have completely put mine to the test, one time my buddy got stuck called me up...anyways basically he was REALLY stuck...i was in 4-low going from reverse to neutral and back again with my foot to the floor. never let off. then bagg drove the shit out of it to tow him the rest of the way out. 2nd gear to the floor bouncin off the rev limit ahahha. tranny never even got hot. 4l80e is one TOUGH tranny man ill tell ya. by the way...the gasser ROASTED us in the duramax...even off 4x4 boost launch. 60 roll was close...still walked tho

Also, the 4L80E is basiclly a turbo 400 with overdrive and it's electroniclly controlled. Heck they have the same first three gear ratios

Posted

yep, thats why they are still around. th400 is a wicked tranny too. if you do burn one its soooo cheap to re-build also. an allison cost you a fortune.
