What's This Cable Dragging? Lol

ok, well yesterday after coming home i noticed a cable dragging about 3 feet behind the rear bumper. I investigated a little and it is still connected to the top side of the rear diff on the pass side. I deem it unimportant because it had a rubber round cork-like thing on the end that is not connected. I estimate it is ~5 feet long and i remedied the situation by tying it to the spare tire. No issues so far and i drove it about 6 miles since tying it off.

Any ideas on where the sucker is supposed to go and what function it has?

sidenote: it is kind of a stretchy rubberish cable so i dont think there are wires or anything but is it possible that it is supposed to stretch up to the front diff in the same way it plugs into the back (as a stopper perhaps?)

thanks for reading

HRM, try applying your parking brake...............

Sounds like the passengers side cable is broke loose. You have a left and right SEPARATE park brake cables where the pedal height adjustment is made under the truck.

Drivers side outside frame rail you should have a cable that splits into 2 cables around the same place the cab corner is..

X2...Sounds like the parking brake cable. That "cork" thing on the end just slides into place...Maybe the retainer broke an ear off somehow.

it possibly could be the vent off the rear diff? the cork looking thing being the filter?

Good one forgot about that little bugger... It does look like cork toooo...

it's the rear diff. vent tube... as long as it has play enough when the axle moves to not bind it's fine, the idea is to get it high enough so that it won't be submerged in water, which could lead to getting water in the rear diff.

brake cable is incased in a rubber hose...but i'm going with rear diff vent, or a robots intestines...

Well if it screams rear diff vent where do i need to plug the loose end back into? theres already one end plugged into the top of the rear diff...does it go up to the front diff? or somewhere else? and yes i will try to get photobucket working so i can show you all some pics
