Pulley Help

I drive a 07 Silverado 5.3L

 

 

 

The pulley in the center of the motor to the top is making all kinds of screeching and chirping noises I put belt dressing on it and it made it worse ...What is the corrrect name for this pulley so i can order one...Newb Question ..sorry

is it common for them to go out...and squeal..its got 80k on it

It's not uncommon for them to go out. You should be able to replace the pulley and the problem go away.

I'd say if you got 80K out of it your doing very well.

get a new belt while your at it

I don' think it is the idler pulley it is the smooth one up top...That the backside of belt runs on...doesn't take the grooves.????

is there a difference between an idler pulley and an accessory belt idler pulley...mines Smooth..and when I went to O'reillys to get one it had grooves in it which looks like the pulley to the left side top of the motor..or do they make a smooth and a ribbed one.

Sounds like they gave you a replacement pulley for the tensioner. The idler pulley is smooth (for your engine).... just need to find someone behind the counter who knows what they're doing.
