Another Hid Bulb Issue

So I've diagnosed my problem and haven't exactly figured it out yet. Just need some opinions or thoughts about what I can do next.

 

So the problem is that my HID bulbs don't always both ignite when I start my truck. BUT when I have the e-brake engaged, then start the truck and turn the low beams on then they both start up.

 

At first I thought it was the fuses/holder so I ended up replacing them(2 were melted) and then I got new connectors/pigtail wiring to the ballasts. I also put dielectric grease in all the connectors bc the old ones were corroding.

 

I don't get any more flickering that I used to get but I have to have my e-brake engaged then turn them on to have them both go on. Sometimes I forget to have the e-brake engaged and they will both turn on.

 

Thoughts anyone?

I had a similiar problem with my '02 YukonXL, especially the HID on the drivers side.

I did the same thing, engage the park brake first, start the truck, then disengage the park brake.

 

Never solved the issue, figured that it just wasn't getting enough power during starting. Those ballests, if they don't fire right, don't seem to 'self correct' after.

The lights on my fish tank do the same thing. If they don't fire properly the first time, reset or they won't come on at all.

Forgot to mention it does have a wiring harness. Battery -> wire -> fuse -> wire-> relay -> wire -> 2 fuses(1 per ballast)

 

I was thinking that it may have been a resistance issue with the wiring but they used to work just fine and now they act up on me. I've narrowed it down to the ballast but I've swapped ballasts and it doesn't seem to fix it

Agreed. Relay harness is definitely the way to go.

Did you swap with new ballasts or from side-to-side? If side-to-side it sounds like you just have ballasts that are going bad, similar to old florescent lights that have trouble igniting the tubes.
