Body Lift Issues: Any?

I spoke to 2 different people who had pure custom lifts on their trucks ( 14" all custom suspension lift with no spacers or body and a desert runner guy with a complete custom shock system all the way around) and they both advised me to stay away from body lifts. They say you start ruining things like steering because you have to extend it and you'll never be able to get it aligned.

So what is your take on Body Lifts?

Sounds like they have never touched a body lift. You do put in a steering extension on the steering shaft, but it doesn't change anything, just extends the shaft. As far as alignment goes, NOTHING in the suspension changes. Therefore no modification of factory suspension or steering angles.

+1

sounds like those guys you talked to are the type that have a ton of $$$$, paid someone to install custom kits, and are now "self proclaimed" experts that dont know a damn thing about what they're talking about.

Historically, the downfall to body lifts were asthetic due to excessive frame showing, people not relocating the bumpers and not installing gap guards.

New trucks dont show as much frame as older trucks do. A 3" bl on a 1500 will make it look like a 2500HD. Get steps and no frame shows. New kits come with bumper relocation brackets and you can buy or make gap guards.

The only real downfall to body lifts is the inability to run off the shelf accessories for the body that mount to the frame... like grill guards, aftermarket bumpers, etc

Yea those guys just don't sound too educated on body lifts. I'm no expert either but there are plenty of experts on here that I trust. So far after half a year I have 0 problems with my truck other than the fact that I can't stop loving it :)

a cheap alternative to a suspension lift that gives almost the same effect.

40-50k miles on my lift, and i have no issues related to it. all a body lift does is physically lift the body off the frame. you can still get an alignment.

Nope.

You know where "spacers cracking" rumor came from? Old rednecks using HOCKEY PUCKS for body lifts :sigh:

Bolts are bolts. Makes sure the threads are clean and put on red loctite, and torque down properly and they'll do what they're designed to do. Body lifts dont magically make bolts work any less efficiently than the stock body bolts... if they come loose, it's due to incorrect installation.. not the body lift.
