Shotguns Designed For Women

So I have finally decided (much to my husband's delight) that I will get my hunting license this year and I will go out hunting with him in the fall. I just know that most shotguns are heavy as hell.

Do any of your wives or any women you know hunt and if so, what type of gun have they had success with?

I am pretty small and pretty weak - I have a hard time holding the pellet gun

Thanks

What are you going to be hunting? Price range?

A youth model Benelli Montefeltro is a good all-around option. Light weight, not much recoil in 20ga and very reliable.

I'm a Browning man, but Benelli makes quality shotguns.

Going to be hunting mostly deer, coyote, maybe black bear, turkey and some rodent types. Price - no idea - maybe less than $500? I did read that most women use youth models.

There are plenty of guns that will fit your need and price range. I would suggest something in the 6mm range for deer, that will limit the recoil. You should have enough time to research a little more to find what's right for you. Maybe you have some friends that can help, or, most gunshops can help with advice. Youth models will be your best choices too.

most brands make shotguns for women otherwise youths work well too, i'd go with a 20 guage for sure, for one it won't kick too hard and second it will throw slugs better....benelli is kind of an expensive brand, great guns(my bro has two) but i'm a remington man myself...i'd go for a mossburg 500 or a remington 870 express for a decent starter gun.....or you could put your husband to shame and get a 10 guage side by side

if you want a 12 guage, the mossberg 500 is a pretty damn light gun. my favorite 12 guage.

You're gonna need a LOT more guns than just a shotgun for all of that!

i would only use a shotgun for birds, i would suggest a small rifle, when i started hunting i used a 30-30. i was a great all around gun for deer and small game. ( my dad and i both used it for moose and elk.) A 243 would be a nice gun for smaller people, men and women, and a small rifle would kick less then a shotgun with a slug.

if your heart is set on a shotgun, i would strongly recommend a benelli shotgun.

The heavier the gun, the less recoil you will feel. Keep that in mind.

Another thing to consider in shotguns is semi-autos have drastically reduced recoil because of how the firearm operates.

I would say that you are best off with a 20 Gauge Remington 870. It is lighter than the 12 and has less of a kick.
