Airbag Removal

So, I am looking to remove my airbag so that I can replace the burnt out bulbs on my steering wheel controls. Its a 2005 Chevy Silverado 1500. Anybody have any idea on how to do this safely?

Disconnect the battery and wait 30 minutes before you do it. Otherwise, just stick an allen wrench into the release holes on the sides of the steering wheel and release the clips that hold the bag module in. No big deal, really. Just be careful not to jar the module around or drop it or anything while it's out.

probably don't need to undo the bag at all....the controls can come out and unplug with the wheel still mounted....just take a very small flatblade screwdriver and kind of work the switch back towards you and then you can get it out of there..
