Hatch Rust

I noticed on both my '05 Tahoe and '01 Yukon XL that the paint is flaking all along the underneath side of the rear hatch. At first i thought it was rusting , but the more I look at it looks like a defect in the painting process as .the paint looks like it's blistering. Anyone else have this and have you done anything about it?

My moms 07 yukon had it on the hatch also. I brought it to the dealer and they broke the blisters and sure enough its rust.

Did you do anything with it? If mine is the same, I'm inclined to want to get it cleaned up. I had one guy tell me that the hatch is aluminum and that it can't possibly be rusting. Any truth to that?

I have heard the hatches are aluminum also....my 01 Burb has the same problem...however the paint isn't broken...

I stopped by a local body shop at lunch and showed it to the owner. He told me that he sees it all the time, he showed me a '08 Yukon with the same thing that they were about to start on. Also had a newer Mercedes sedan that the paint was blistering all along the inside seams on the front doors.

 

Anyways, mine is just on the hatch and he said since it was caught early it shouldn't be a problem to clean up. Should run me around $300 and take a couple of days.
