Door Creeking

Recommended Posts

My door is making a terrible creaking noise when I shut the door. I think it is catching on the detent. Is there supposed to be a nylon sleve on the pin or something?

I had a similar problem with my Mazda 626. turned out to be the plastic door check (door stop strap). After I sprayed it liberally with WD 40, the creaking noise stopped.

So spray WD 40 over hinges so that it penetrates inside the hinge pins. I am not sure if your truck has a separate door check.

Have you had your truck serviced lately? My drivers side started creaking after the dealer replaced the door locks. It happens mainly when I put the windows up, and sometimes when I shut the door. Too busy to take it back for them to tell me "I don't hear nothing/the tech couldn't find anything/or it's normal".

So it's NORMAL when your truck doors creak like an old barn door?

I find that noise very annoying myself.

I grease the detent with some bearing grease and it helped a lot. Maybe some white lithium grease would work better. Look better too.

GM sells lube for that. I don't remember exactly what it's called (I've nicknamed it frothy lube as it seems to spray out like watery whipped cream.) The manual listed "recommended crap" for various parts.

Took care of my '00 issue like that.

Probably white lithium grease spray can.
