Off Roadprotection For A Gmt 900

After reading the paint chip thread and actually taking the time to wash and detail my truck i noticed that i have a quite a few chipped areas. I do off road the truck quite a bit and drive on gravel roads frequantly, so stopping them all together is almost impossible.

But here's what i'm looking for. Mostly rocker protection, i'm not interested in the oval step tubes. I'm looking for something on the jeep Rubi's. The steel piece that runs under the door. Just looking for a bit of impact protection, but i'm thinking something like that won't be availible on the market and will have to be custom. so here's my ideas, if custom i think i will use the same mounting points that GM uses for mounting the step bars/tubes.

Also looking for some bumpers. Seems as tho there aren't readily availible on the market either. Seems as tho Fab4 is my only option and have what i'm looking for. Any reviews? Problems and anythign i should look out for?

I'm going to do the 2" leveling kit to the truck and maybe a block in the rear just so when I tow i won't be pointing to the sky. So I have been searching so all i need to know is, are the mounting point for oval steps strong enough to mount some sort of rocker guard? Also any reviews on the Fab four bumpers? Also not trying to jack the truck to the sky or build an ultimate off road machine. Just looking to add a bit of protection for a few stupider moments i may have.

Thanks Caleb

My buddy has some Go Rhino Dominator II steps on his truck and they do a fair job of stopping alot of chipping. He has a long gravel drive so he got a fair amount of chips but now that he has those they are far less frequent.

Ranchand makes a good front and rear bumper replace. I know a guy had front and rear with a 3" body and 35's on here at one time. I'll see if i can find some pictures.

EDIT: Here is the link to the guys truck. Looks nasty.

I made my own from 2" steel pipe with a slash cut at each end. It kinda was a pain in the neck, but I do hear rocks hitting it. I used the factory running board mounting locations and and custom brackets out of .25" plate. It only sits about .25" below the doors. If I did it again would use 2.25" pipe for a little more coverage. Oh ya, it's super solid, does not flex at all.

my only question is, if you hold a pipe / plate of steel that close to the door / rockers w/o actually attaching like diomond plating to the truck, your gonna get a ton or snow and salt into that crawl space to increase corrosion, I see you live in Canada, so it's gonna happen.

I'm not going to make it so tight to the underbelly/rockers and doors that it will hold any water. Just looking to add a bit of strength for going through ruts, and maybe over a log. Something like that.
