2010 GMC Sierra SLT 4x4 extended cab. Can you add the integrated brake control at the dealer???? I was told that they could,, now I am getting told that it might not be possible.. From what I have seen on this forum you can't,, If that is the case,, they owe me, as that is what clinched the deal with them.

Love the truck, waxed it yesterday,, found absolutely no chips or dings in the paint, think this is the first new vehicle that didnt' have at least one in it. Mileage is good so far too,, less than 500 miles on it and the read out says a bit over 17 mpg, and that is just running around,, not all freeway miles.. DAve

There are too many parts that are either different,or that need changed out.

The brake master cylinder,booster & chassis wiring harness are just a few of the parts that are different.

You would also need to add the switch,brake controller module,relay & dash trim piece to just name a few of the new parts needed.

Your truck also must have Stabilitrak,You also would need to get the BCM reprogrammed,And thats if the dealer would be willing to try and reprogram it,most won't due to liability issues.

 

And good luck with that because of this document...

 

GM has a document out(#PIT4729) that states you cannot add an integrated brake controler to a vehicle without RPO code(JL1).

And RPO code JL1 has the controler.

Condition/Concern:

 

Some customers may request that dealers install the factory Integrated Trailer Brake Controller on their 2007 to 2009 Full Size pickup when the vehicle was ordered without RPO JL1.

 

 

Recommendation/Instructions:

 

This is to advise you that if the vehicle does not have RPO JL1, it cannot be retro-fitted with a factory trailer brake controller.

 

Bulletin 06-08-45-008B or later advises how to install an aftermarket trailer brake controller on vehicles NOT equipped with RPO JL1.

 

Bulletin 07-08-45-001B or later advises how to install an aftermarket trailer brake controller under certain conditions if the vehicle IS equipped with RPO JL1.

 

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.

I think you will be very happy with the P3. I especially like the fact that it can be easily unplugged and stored in the house when not in use. Keeps people from breaking into the truck to steal it. Its performance is first rate..

I am game what is the brake controller.... I will try it.... But the P3 is one a many I have used over the years..... It is the best thing I have ever pulled with. Tell me what you liked and I will try it...

I actually use its earlier version, the Prodigy, and am pretty happy with it. I also have a Jordan in the basement that worked well.

 

Having said that, you can spend more money and get a better BC if you need it. For instance, there is the Brakesmart, which is as proportional of a BC as you can get because it taps the brake system. But I think they are hard to find (new) now.

 

Hensley also makes TruControl BC's, which can deliver more juice to multi-axle or particularly heavy trailers. It's reviews have been positive for the most part.

 

For most of our half ton towing, a Prodigy or P3 serves the purpose perfectly.

Not fussing with ya.. I tow 16+k pretty regular with my 3/4 ton. With 2 axles of brakes.... I had a valley controller in that truck when I bought it. But I sell tekonsha so I changed the controllers out. I have used a garden varitey of controllers. The p3 is the best I have used...

 

Hensley is not a common brand in my area. I will purchase one and try it.
