Door Trim

2005 silverado 1500 crew cab. The trim pieces that run across the doors are starting to look pretty nasty. Can they be replaced pretty easily? how are they attached? I tried searching for new ones on a couple of parts sites for new ones and have had no luck. any help would be greatly appreciated.

Are you talking about these trim pieces?

I originally was going to try and re-cover them with red leather but found a set of the wood grain panels on ebay cheap. I then painted them to match my exterior color and added billit door locks and handles.

No, the trim on the outside of the door. I think that is supposed to protect from other car doors from hitting the paint.

You must be talking about the Body Side Moldings. They are mounted with 3M tape and can be removed, but be careful so you don't scratch your paint. If you do a thread search I believe there are several threads on here about removal of tese moldings. Replacements can be purchased through a dealer or online and there are aftermarket moldins available.

Either, take them and paint them body color or just buy new ones from ebay or something. I'd use this chance to paint them body color myself, If they don't turn out great, you didn't lose anything.

yes, the body side moldings. not sure if there is an actual name for them. must be why i got no where on a search and couldnt find a replacement on any site. They are kind of body color now. just without a clear coat and some crappy finish. I guess i will try and remove them and sand and paint them. Is a heat gun a bad idea? I dont want my paint looking like that toyota. I will surely stay away from the chisel and steel wool.

Your thumb or a 3M eraser wheel will do the job without messing up the paint finish. If it's too tough maybe a little goo gone will help, but I like to just hit it with the eraser wheel myself.
