How-To: Install Scangauge II In 99-02 Silverado Overhead Console.

I purchased the Scangauge II and love it. I have it set up to read transmission pressure, temp, oil life monitor since mine only has a light that comes on when it is due and doesn't show the percentage. I also set it up for all kinds of trip stuff, like current distance to empty, today distance to empty and so forth.

 

I mounted it in that blank in my center console. I figured it was the best place for it. I just had enough cable to make it there.

 

I first traced the outline of the scangauge and then cut it out with a dremel.

 

 

 

Then I ran the lead up from the OBDII port.

 

 

 

Then fished a wire over to the center console to pull the lead through to it. I used some .032 safety wire for this. A thicker wire would have been better but I managed to get it to fish over.

 

 

Then I just mounted the center console back up and slid the scangauge into it. I made it a little bit of a tight fit. This way I can take it out if I need to use it in another vehicle to scan codes. I just need to get another cable. So I'll be looking on line for one here shortly.

Nice. I have a ScanGuage also but my overhead console has a storage compartment in that location so this wouldn't work for me. Mines mounted to a window suction mount in the lower left side of the windshield. Sun glare sometimes makes it tough to read so your location is a good place to mount it. I'm looking for an alternate location but the cable length kind of limits the number of mounting places.

 

You say you have it setup to monitor engine oil life and transmission pressure. What's the guage programming to do this? I'm interested in setting mine up for these two guages. I've set mine to read trans temp as well as the long term fuel trims for both banks. I also installed a second DLC so I didn't need to unplug the ScanGuage to plug in my scanner or laptop.

Thanks, however, the trans pressure PID may not be supported by my PCM in the 2000 Silverado. At least the decimal codes above don't work on mine. I'll need to do a little more research. It may be supported but requires a different hex code combination to extract that data.

 

I forgot that I already had the Oil Life monitor plugged into the gauge. It comes with the gauge's instructions.
