Front Hitch On A 2500

I have a relatively long, narrow, not straight driveway and no room to turn a trailer at the house. I occasionally tow an 18 foot car trailer and getting it to the house is, shall we say, a challenge. Years ago, my father installed a hitch on the front of his Silverado and could park the trailers on a dime with the extra maneuverability the front hitch provided. Does anyone have a hitch on the front of a 2500?? Any clues as to where one might be found??

Interesting concept, but I would have a concern about the weight on the front end and stress on steering with manuvering heavier trailers (especially those that are loaded).. I know of a tow kit that mounts to vehicles, so that you can tow your vehicle using another vehicle. But if I were to do it, I would want something that connected to the frame, which would have it's limitations for access. A plow carton connects under the chasis, so having a ball that low would not be practical. You would need the ball at the same height as the rear and the rear is higher then the front most of the times.

They do make hand held trucks which have hitch balls on them and you manually move the trailer around, however your trailer would be much too heavy to do that.

Old Dog - Thanks a bunch for the link to Draw-Tite. That should fill the bill. Kinda hate to trim the facia, but at least I don't lose the tow hooks. I knew someone on this forum would have a solution.

That is a really nice dolly. Are those available for purchase, or did you build it? It would work great except for the gravel road and 20 foot elevation change. I don't have enough @ss to push or pull a trailer with a 3200 lb car on it up a hill. Although I do see some serious potential for maneuvering the trailer after the car is unloaded.

No, I found it doing a Google image search for "trailer dolly". Apparently these guys custom build them;

I also found these motorized ones (some with electric brake controllers) - but they are expensive;

A hitch itself doesn't weigh much. Hooking the front to a trailer would be just like having a snow plow on the front. There are many trucks around that have hitches on the front, and I've always wondered why. But, now I know.

front hitches are the ticket when trying to move bumper hitch trailers around in tight spaces... ive got one on my tractor and a place to put a ball in my skid loader bucket

can you just push the plastic vallance pannel up and out of the way when you want to use the hitch ? or notch it if it is behind the pannel to far that you can use a rubber hitch receiver plug to fill the hole when not using it .

Draw-tite and Curt both make front mount recievers. The curt hangs just below the bumper, the draw-tite requires you to modify the fascia and come out of the bumper where the front license plate is. They make a license plate re-location bracket that goes in the receiver. So to use it you must pull the pin and remove the front plate.
