ive been looking around. i want to change the gears out back. not sure what i have but i know its not what i want. im thinking a 3.73 or a 4.10. but i want a locker

is the rear end a 10 bolt or a 12 bolt? what size? i found a ring and pinion set. its like $168.

Check your RPO codes in the glove box to find out which gears you have now.

 

GT4 Rear Axle: 3.73 Ratio

GT5 Rear Axle: 4.10 Ratio

GU4 Rear Axle: 3.08 Ratio

GU6 Rear Axle: 3.42 Ratio

G80 Rear Axle: Positraction

HC4 Rear Axle: 4.56 Ratio

HC7 Rear Axle: 5.13 Ratio

You have a 10 bolt 8.6. It wouldn't pay to go to 3.73..4.10 would be a better option.

Your differential is a ten bolt. There are 10 bolts in the cover.. with an 8.6 ring gear...and 3.42 is close to 3.73. You would not notice the change as much as going to a 4.10.

also what size? im seeing 7.5 and 8.5

so the name is the number of bolts on the pumpkin... and so i need an 8.6 inch ring gear.

well i wouldnt be installing a locker right away because i dont believe i have one. what makes it so special that i cant shadetree it
