I have a 98 GMC Sierra. Extended cab Z71. Has daytime running lights. The problem is that after I turn my headlights on, they go off after about 20 minutes. about a minute or 2 later they come back on. The multi function switch in the column has been replaced and the drl relay has been replaced. Still does it. From what i understand the headlights go thru the drl relay. Ive removed the drl module and it still does it. Any idea what it could be?

Headlight Relay (there is probably a headlight relay in addition to the DRL)

Well I've called the dealer. Give them the vin. And they say it runs through the drl relay. There isn't an actual headlight relay. I've looked everywhere for it. I'm kinda stumped.I don't know where else to look. Wiring diagrams in haynes repair manual only show it going thru the drl relay and no other. I've upgraded the lights to HID and now just have them wired to an offroad light harness temporarly till I can figure out what's going on.

This is information that should have been in your OP.

Did the problem start right after your upgrade? Are you powering the HIDs through the factory wiring or did you install them using a relay controlled by the dash switch?

it was doing it before i installed the HIDs. I had an offroad light harness for KCs laying around so i threw it in and hooked it up to the HIDs temporarly.

There is a headlamp control module.

Have you considered it could be your switch? It does have a circuit breaker according to wiring schematics
