True Duals Vs. "fake" Duals

I want to get a new exhaust and some people tell me to get the true duals because it sounds better than just two pipes stemming out of one muffler. Any help on this I would appreciate. Thanks.

Without true duals (X of H pipe), you could be taking a toll on your performance.

True duals (without X or H pipe) will give you a "cackle" sound like some of the old muscle cars or 70's trucks with glass packs used to have. Fake duals are cheaper, and will give you more of a deeper tone, without the cackle. In my experience, drone and resonance is more of a problem with fake duals unless you buy an expensive muffler that is tuned specifically for your engine (magnaflow). As far as an X or H pipe, I don't think it's that important on a stock motor. Personally, I love the cackle of true duals. Some people don't. I had true duals with 18 inch glass packs on my '06 and loved the way it sounded. Good luck

A good sounding exhaust is in the ear of the beholder, search on Youtube or this forum for sound clips and then decide what you want. Spending a few hundred dollars on an exhaust system and then being dissatisfied sucks.

We are running true duals (with an X pipe) on our Silverado. If you are planning on running duals, I would highly recommend using an X pipe with two mufflers.

I have flowmaster true duals and they don't drone at all at 65mph. I don't have an x pipe either. They did sound sorta loud and obnoxious when I first put them on, but now, 20,000 miles down the road they sound really good.

I have true duals with no mufflers at all and no X or H pipe. Just headers to pipe into 4" tips out back. This is what you want if you're doing the whole "loud" thing.

What are you doing to run true duels on the NNBS trucks, I got a 2010 with a 5.3, are you putting headers on or cutting the third cat off?
