I'm thinking of removing the 4wd. Essentially removing the CV axles and front diff. Will the front tires fall off without the CV axles? I've been told they won't by my dad, but I want an expert opinion. Although some people are probably going to knock for it, I never used 4wd once in the years I've owned this truck and I can't justify carrying the extra weight.

are you high? thats like saying your going to go buy a 50 caliber barret and rechamber it to 22 cal rim fire...keep the 4x4 the 1 mpg hit is well worth having four wheel drive

i have never had a 4 wheel just for that reason. i don't need it, so it would be extra weight for nothing

You are kidding... right?

 

In case you're not, make sure you take apart the CV's and reinstall the outer shaft through the wheel bearing. Without it, your front bearings will separate... that means your tires will fall off while you're driving. Not good.
