'02 Trans Slips At Wot

Afternoon,

OK, went to pass someone on the highway, foot down truck kicks down like normal, then wants to overrev and slip between the overdrive and passing gears...I think if I'd let it it'd just keep flipping back and forth until something goes *click*. Immediatly after passing I got a CEL, and of course can't find my Scanguage and closest retail parts store is about 50 miles away so I can't read the code at this time.

Any idea what can be causin this behaviour? Got about a 3k round trip coming up in a week and really don't feel like having to worry about getting stranded somewhere. Someone mentioned an O2 sensor, I've never heard of one causing this kind of problem.

Thanks,

Sam

Code would help. I doubt O2 sensor. That would give a code and perhaps reduced power.

If it's trying to overrev and slipping between 3rd/4th, it sounds like it's tranny time, but code may point to something that is a lot less drastic.

Yeah, that's what I was afraid of. I'll swing into the local shadetree and see if he has a scanner on the way home tonight. So far it only acts up at highway speed (55-70) and when at WOT, hopefully there's something to this code, but, not really holding my breath. Wish my VagCom would ready chevy codes.

Sam, thanks again.

Before it's "tranny time", I'd drop the pan and change the filter. No sense spending $2000+ to fix something that a $40 filter change could have helped. IMO
