A Few New Mods

Well i have done all my mods planned on my 6.2L. I first cut of the resonator as i couldn't afford a corsa exhaust, which i wanted. Could tell a very small difference in the exhaust note but not much. Second i put on a airraid CAI and throttle body spacer.(ya ya i know what your gonna say, not worth it, but i got a screamin deal on both as my uncle works at a truck accesories store) After i put on those two things i could tell a big difference, it felt more responsive and i could deffinately hear the big 6.2 huffing all that air. I also noticed an increase in highway milage but it is to soon to tell just how much as i have only taken one trip after the install.

After i did all that i data logged with the autocal and sent everything into Justin at BB. He worked his magic and took off all of the delays, removed speed limiter, and firmed up the shifts. During normal driving a really cant tell a difference, which can be a good or bad thing i guess since it drove so smooth before. But when i get on it i can tell that the shifts are much much firmer and quicker. When i hammer it off the line i struggle for traction, with TC on, with it off, well we wont go there. I havnt had it long enough to tell a difference in milage, well its actually down so far, i don't know why that is :dunno::lol:

I also used the 3M rubberized coating under my wheel wells, huge differnce. Fairly easy to put on and so far its holding up, but then again ive only had it on for a week.

Not sure what my next upgrade will be, either thinking some nice alpine speakers, a moddest lift, and as soon as i need them i will be putting on some nicer and better performing rubber, thinking zeons. Then of course i will never be against putting a different cam in, or maybe a nice set of headers.

Where did you pick up the 3M rubberized coating? I have a 6.2L as well and just bought an Autocal and a Volant CAI. I am going to go down to P-Burgh to get Justin to tune my ole girl. I am on the fence about the exhaust though, I would ultimately like to eliminate the resonator and put an aftermarket muffler on but I am concerned that it will be too loud. What do you guys think I should do or what muffler I should go with?

thanks

Meijer, autozone, and I think walmart has the undercoating

With all the discussions about tuning, I don't recall anyone ever talking about "normal driving" performance with a custom tune. It's very interesting that you don't notice much difference, and also very important. Most folks like myself rarely if ever drive WOT...

With my Vmax, having it tuned under "Normal" driving conditions, I can tell you the throttle response is clearly better, and just merging with traffic is noticeably easier.

Thanks Steven. When you say "throttle response", I'm assuming you mean the "go go" matches up better with the right foot? I've read this a lot about the 6.0, but I can't really say I've noticed it on my 5.3. My last truck was a '99 5.3, and the 08 seems to have better response (both stock, and the 99 was cable throttle). Maybe it doesn't, but I can't really tell. I *rarely* put the pedal down though...

On my 4.8 it made a huge difference in day to day driving. Very smooth power delivery, smooth shifts that occur when they actually should occur, smooth downshifts (or gear selection to be more precise) on corners. Just took out a 2011 version of my truck on a test drive, except it had 3.73 gears (I added 4.10 to mine), and it was a night/day difference in normal driving.

Yes,... Go go... :( On the 6.0, the throttle delay was HORRIBLE before diablo, before Blackbear. Both made a good improvement on throttle delay.

I just think the 6.2L had good throttle response from the factory, the tune made it even better but driving in town in traffic i cant really tell a difference, i can tell that it holds gears a tad longer but nothing extreme. Once i get on it, or even just merging into traffic i can tell a bigger difference.

Ok now that i have had a few more days of driving and learning about my tune(thanks to justin) i have an even bigger smile. Now that i know my tow/haul button is TM reduced, firmer shifts, and holding onto shifts longer, my rear tires stand no chance. When i have the tow/haul mode button pushed, from a stop with about half throttle my tires don't stop screaching until the end of 1st then they chirp into second, and havn't held it long enough to see about 3rd. Now this is half throttle, with Traction control ON! I will get a good test for milage this coming weekend so i will let you all know about it.
