I've had it! This new engine in my truck just pushed me over the limit. The engine has like 20km on it now and the rear main seal is pouring out oil as soon as you hit 2000rpm. Im so sick of this shit. Its just one thing after another on this engine. At first it was the wrong water pump. Then the whole thing was suppose to be timed and guess what it wasnt.

Everything was so far out. No biggy right so we got that fixed. Then come to get my rad flushed and apparently is was nfg. So over $200 later. I dont really know why it failed the flush that rad never did leak anyways. So once i got that hooked up and fired up the truck my tranny lines going in to the rad werent sealing so it was puking oil all over. Fixed that. Then once that was done we came to fine tune my truck for the timing. Turns out my scanner will not work with my truck so i had to buy a new cartidge. Got it timed. Now tonight did a couple more tests and pulled it in the garage to park it and it left a nice trail of oil driving in. Ramped it to 2000rpm and its puking oil outta the rear main. You know after spending basically $3000 and thats not including my tires and front end parts you would think shit would work out right? nope. So now im stuck driving this peice of shit 1996 dodge ram and it has the 360 in it and that thing is so gutless. So i guess i will start working on the dodge now so its got a little more power. Thats my rant and now im gonna open another beer

I somewhat know how you feel man. When we rebuilt the engine in my old 88 it was one thing after the other. Got it all done then it overheated. Replaced the waterpump that didnt work. Replaced the Radiator that didn't work. Had to add an electric fan because no one had a shroud to work with the bigger radiator. Finally put a new temp. guage in the damn thing then that took care of the problem. It will come around eventually.

My engine temp is fluctuating between 180f to 205f. put a superstat thermstat in and still runs at 200

I assume you got a new thermostat? What brand did you buy and what degree is it?

Stant and its a 195. Thinkn i should put a 185 in

 

 

 

 

 

I know the ones from Autozone are junk sometimes and don't work like they should, but IDK about Stant. Ive always bought ACDelco for in mine and never had a problem. I would def. put a 180 in it for now at least. When a motor is new it tends to run hotter because of the new internal components like Piston Rings etc... Still doesn't explain why its running diff temps though. After a while I would go back to a 195 if your worried about better fuel mileage.

I find that when I drink beer to forget about problems they usually go away, until I run out of beer. SOLUTION: Buy more beer.

I know how you feel. I installed a new $35,000 engine in an airplane once and the crank seal started spraying oil on the windscreen after less than 50 hrs. You'd think it would be dry as a bone for that price, huh?

ya man, when i built my 87 it was one thing after another too. i bought a 355 short block and did 2.02 edelbrock heads and cam with LT's. same thing one god damn thing after another, just remember its a chevy once things are done right it will be okay. its an older girl gotta remember that eh bud. dont put any money into that 360 thats just talkin crazy.

    • Those are parts changers. It can get expensive though. I was a mechanic for 30 yrs. My truck has made this noise since new. I really don`t know what it is. It really doesn`t bother me. I`m still in warranty but have not brought it to the dealer.   I`m not buying the oil pump prime thing. Screw the TSB. I believe it`s in the trans pump gears. They rattle when that piss poor ULV oil drains off after a while. I believe those sharp tooth gears, with backlash, can rattle when dry. Not a vane style oil pump. Wonder who`s right? Me, or the TSB?🤔   Maybe I`m wrong?
    • Sounds about right. I miss the days of mechanics lol. 
    • On the PCM side, blue PCM connector, pin 18, solid gray color (no stripe) wire circuit 435.  That is the EGR low circuit which an issue on that line (be it the wiring, the PCM or the EGR valve or system performance) will trigger P0401 when it tests that code.     There is also a VERY old TSB that states to make sure you clear the DTCs ANY time the PCM is unplugged, reprogrammed, or if the EGR valve is unplugged or replaced as the PCM has an auto zero function in the PCM for the EGR pintle data   61-65-59: SMU - SECTION 6E - ENGINE CONTROLS - CLEAR DTC'S - (Nov 25, 1996)   "CLEAR ANY DTCS FROM THE VCM ANYTIME AFTER DOING VCM REPLACEMENT/ PROGRAMMING, TURNING THE IGNITION ON WHILE THE EGR VALVE IS DISCONNECTED, OR REPLACING THE EGR VALVE."   Some diagnostic aid notes in the GM diag on P0401 for a 1995 S10 Blazer:   Diagnostic Aids Notice: In order to prevent further damage if the EGR valve shows signs of excessive heat, check the exhaust system for blockage (possibly a plugged converter) using the procedure found on the restricted exhaust system check. If the exhaust system is restricted, repair the cause; one of which might be an injector which is open due to one of the following reasons: Stuck Grounded driver circuit Check the oil for possible fuel contamination if a stuck open fuel injector is found. Poor connection or damaged harness - Inspect VCM harness connectors for the following conditions: Backed out terminal BL 18 Improper mating Broken locks Improperly formed or damaged terminal Poor terminal to wire connection Damaged harness Intermittent test - If connections and harness check OK, monitor a digital voltmeter connected between terminal BL 18 and ground while moving related connectors and wiring harness. If the failure is induced, the voltage reading will change.
    • maybe get a service manual off ebay?  or check charm.li (website) or subscribe to alldata.com for it?
    • This biggest difference in a HM oil is in contains some  "Seal Conditioner". DEXOS oils and most shelf oils are "Dry" oils which over time harden seals. "Seal Conditioner" is more times than not, an Ester. Addition will soften the seals over time but will not repair one that leaks or has cracked. Esters also provide some cleaning but these HM oils don't contain enough to solve out hard deposits. Just the soft stuff.  Also a function of an Ester.    Ester's are not 'allowed' as a 'co-base" by license. Weird, right?  A certain amount is allowed as an additive. Bunch of game playing is what it is. It's why HM oils don't have a DEXOS approval.    DEXOS is a license 'with' a specification but is not a specification. Never was, never will be. It's GM's slot machine always paying the house. Use what you like.
