Installed Nightvision Backup Camera With Monitor 09 Silverado

So I installed a backup camera I got off of ebay for like 60 bucks today. I was really impressed overall with the system. I have it pointed all the way down to see my hitch when parking and hooking up the boat. I normally just tap walls when I backup park but it was always a pain to judge distance when reversing into a benz lol. I choose not to hook it up to the reverse lights and instead used an on-off switch so I can keep the camera on while towing to watch the trailer (you can see the switch under my temp gauge). I can easily adjust the camera up to get a better angle if I want. I was really blow away by how good the nightvision worked. In the picture below you can see even though it is covered with rain drops you can still make out my driveway and gate. And that wasn't even in reverse, that was in park with no lights on!!! The part number, incase anyone wants to know, is PLCM36 and it's made by Pyle View. Overall I am really impressed with the picture quality. Lets see how it holds up over time.

Just noticed I spelled monitOR wrong in the title lol sorry

Fixed that for you.

And you got the camera, screen, and everything you needed for $60? Sounds like a smokin' deal to me! Looks great!

Is that a wireless monitor or is it hardwired ? I can't use that spot as I have 4wd and the switch is there.

It's wired. I've heard bad things about wireless. You can get interference and stuff. True maybe you can use the one on the passenger side?? The Screen is not to small so it might work.

Thanks. It came with everything. The only thing was since we didn't power the camera with the tailights we had to get power wire to run to the front to wire it to the switch instead. No big deal. I actually saw it on amazon for $75 I believe. It had a bunch of good reviews on there as well.

That has to work a lot better than my wife. "Back... back... little left...... back... left...... ....... ...... S T O P !!! Get out, look... off by 4 inches to the left and almost into the bumper." :)

Took a pic of the nightvison without any dust or rain drops on the lens last night. Parked up against a bush again with no reverse lights or tail lights on. Just the camera on. Very clear.

I like it. I'd have to pick a different spot for the monitor. That's where my iPod goes. :D

There's plenty of places to pick from though.

Update March 3, 2011: System still working fine. Haven't had any issues with the system at all. Was nervous the first time I went to wash the truck or when it rained lmao. But nothing. Works great and makes hooking up the boat by myself a breeze. Helps alot with parking too.

looks good man, ive had a backup camera sitting in my shop for the last 4 or 5 months now, havent gotten around to putting it in. although i started to the one time but couldnt find a suitable place to mount the screen in my gmt800. mines got night vision ir lights in it aswell so im curious to see how itll work once installed.

oh and the benz comes with a soft bumper so that people like you and i who always have a hitch in place have something to cushion our stops a little. like a buffer of sorts, lol
