Warranty Question

I have a question about a dealer installed tonneau cover. The velcro is starting to not hold any more, and when driving down the freeway the tonneau starts to lift up. I called the dealer that I bought it from and they told me that the warranty lady was gone for the day, but that it would only have been covered by the 12,000 mile/12 month warranty. I think that it is covered by the 3 year/36,000 mile warranty, can any of you guys give me better information based on a 2008?

Its best to go back to the dealer you bought it from and ask.

My bud got a GM tonneau cover for his 07 gmt-900 and the velcro

on his also wore out. The dealer gave him the good ol' song and

dance and wouldn't warranty it! He was still under the 3/36 also.

From the GM accessories web page: (GMC Accessories; download the brochure, warranty on last page...)

"Fully backed by GM. GMC Accessories permanently installed at the time of new-vehicle delivery are covered under the New-Vehicle Limited Warranty. If installed after delivery, coverage on parts and labor is for the balance of the new-vehicle warranty or a minimum of 12 months or 12,000 miles, whichever comes first. GMC Accessories not requiring installation or purchased over the counter carry a 12-month limited warranty on parts only. Does not apply to licensed products."

So it would seem that if you bought the tonneau at the time of truck purchase then 3/36,000. If after then it is 12/12,000...

Without going in and actually looking at the wording, I believe it means if you have say 12,000 miles on your truck when installed by the dealer, then it's good till you have 36,000 miles.( balance of new car warranty) If you have 30,000 miles when installed, you have 12,000 miles/1 year (which would be then 42,000). Just my opinion.

The GM accessory 12 month / 12000 mile warranty is valid from the date of installation. Accessories come with their own warranty and are not part of the initial 3 year / 36,000 mile warranty unless on the vehicle at time of retail delivery.

I'm not saying this... it's a quote from my buddy who owns a Chevrolet Dealership.

EDIT: Screwed up his quote.

You are correct it is 3/36,000 if installed at the time of delivery. If you add it later, it is 12/12,000.
