Pitman And Idler Arm Replacement

I'm going to tackle this project on my 06 2500HD. Are there any other options out there besides the OEM garbage? Maybe a company has made them more robust, or a different design? I just feel like I'm replacing junk with more junk.

Most say OEM are just as good as any but you need to also add the brace by Cognito. It will help the arms last a lot longer.

 

I just replaced both of mine. Make sure you know which pitman arm you need. There is a 3 groove and a 4 groove. Everyone told me that my 2001 was a 3 groove but it was a 4 groove.

 

I did not spend the extra $200 on the Cognito brace because I don't plan on keeping it that much longer. At least not 80K miles longer, which is what the original arms lasted.

I got the highest quality NAPA brand one and it's served me well. Not to mention it's quite beefy. Like mentioned above, make sure you check for 3 or 4 spline. No parts stores in my area had a 3 spline in stock because they had never had anyone ask for one. I'm not sure what the difference is besides that the 3 spline arm would (in theory) be stronger because the splines are wider and less likely to shear. I have no idea which trucks got what, so good luck!
