Amping Up The Existing Bose Subwoofer

I ran across this forum topic where these guys have added a small amp to the bose sub in there center console. I could be wrong, but the way I understand it is all the GMT-800's and up and a sub in the center console on the bose systems. A little more power on it would be nice. I have a storage compartment under my back seats in the ext. cab so I can't put a sub back there. And the install for a JL Stealthbox look crazy hard! Anyways, I'm wondering if anybody on here has done this or will try it? If not I wondering if someone with a lot of audio knowledge could help me get setup to do it. I want a small amp that with the right ohms, and one that can power off the orange wire on the bose amp. Also I'm not sure how to connect the wires to the amp yet? I think I could do it if I can just get it clear in my mind...

the GMT-800's with Bose have a sub? i have always been under the impression that they did not... if so where would it be in a 2003 suburban?

I am not for sure on this, but everything I have read is saying if you have the GMT 800 trucks with the two bucket front seats and the center console and the bose system then there is a sub in the center console. I'm not sure on a suburban though. I would think it would if it was the same setup. Most people that have one didn't even know it because it is so weak. But if you know where to look, you can certainly feel a little extra thump there. If yours looks like this pic, you should have a small sub just in front of that cupholder.

Interesting alpine makes a small amp that is an inline high level so no need for high level to rca splicing. I'll have to look it up tomorrow.

I don't fully understand a lot of this stuff...all I know is I would love to know what amp I need and some clear instructions on how to splice the wire to add some amp to that sub.

My 2004 Suburban has the Bose system and the subwoofer is in the center console. The output is not weak, either. If I turn the bass all the way up on the audio controls, I can feel it in the console and the floor. It's a much better location for the sub than all the way back in the storage area, like my 2000 Suburban had.

they talked about in that topic powering the extra sub off of the orange wire that powers the amp already there? I wish I knew if there was an amp that would allow me to do that. Running the wire all the way out to the battery sounds like a ton of trouble.

Yeah I can certainly tell it's in mine also if I crank the bass all the way. I just hate to do that because it's then putting out so much bass in the speakers that if I crank the volume way up I think it's stressing them. I get some raddling and stuff. But don't get me wrong I love the bose sound system. It's sounds great. I would just like to be able to set my bass eq at balanced and add some extra bass. Then I'd be able to get some clean LOUD volume with good thumping bass :uhoh:

I swapped my factory non-lux amp (found in everything except the Denali and Cadillacs) to the lux amp (Denali/Cadillac) and am STILL amazed by the difference.

The sound is so much better...the bass is so much better. What a worth while mod. And the best part is that it looks to be all stock.
