Gear Selector Issue

I have a 1996 GMC K1500. The problem I'm experiencing (out of the several lol) is that when I try to put the gear selector into drive, the orange selector needle in the instrument cluster moves all the way, but stays at "N" even the though the truck is in drive. Is there a way to adjust this? TIA fellas.:thumbs:

Yeah, but it's kinda hard to explain, the shifter makes the plastic piece on the column move and the cable that moves the needle is just clipped to it, and over time it may start slipping off the column. If you pull the panel under the column you might be able to see this cable hooked to needle in the cluster, and you might can adjust it. There's a slot on the bottom of the column just under that panel that it is clipped to, it's probably beginning to slip out of the slot.

So last night I removed the intrument cluster altogether and to my surprise, there were no cables attached to it. The intrument gluster was one whole piece that clipped in to what looked like a harness connector. Am I still not looking in the right area? Thanks fellas
