Oem Remote Start Installed But No Hvac?

Hey Everyone-

 

Hopefully someone can help me figure this out? Last week I had the factory remote start installed in my 08 Silverado SB/EC, while it works great to start the truck, that's ALL it does. No heater controls are functioning and the heat doesn't come on. Is there something I'm missing here? Were they supposed to re-flash my ECU to make this work? Or did I waste money on something that doesn't do what I wanted/expected it to? Any advice you can offer is appreciated. Thanks!

Do leave the heat on when you turn the truck off? I may be wrong (I dont' have remote start), but I think you have to have the heater on the last time you turn your truck off. Then the next time you remote start the truck the heat is already on. I believe it's the same as if you start the truck manually with the key. You know, you leave the heater on when you get home. The next morning you go and start the truck and the heat is already on. My brother in law has factory remote start on his 2010 Silverado and I thought that was how his worked.

Yeah, I leave the heat on. But, when I start it remotely, no lights come on for the HVAC, and no heat is blowing out of the vents. As soon as I get in and turn the key on, everything comes on as normal. I appreciate the quick feedback though.

In my '07, I don't need to leave the HVAC on when I turn off the truck. When I auto-start it, the HVAC will deliver a/c in warm weather, and eventually heat when it's cold (it's a diesel so it takes a little bit). It will even activate the heated seats on it's on.

Once I put the key in, the HVAC will return to the state it was at when I turned off the truck (ie. if I left it off, it will turn off as soon as the key is turned).

keep in mind that the truck's heater relies on engine heat, until the engine is warm there is no heat to distribute to the cabin.

cold temps - turns on heated seats, blows full blast heat

warm temps - blows full blast a/c

 

it does this until the key is turned on then reverts

It's as if the fan for the heat (or a/c) doesn't kick on at all, I'm going to go out at lunch, turn the heat to all the way hot and the fan to high, then remote start the truck and see if it does anything. it doesn't do anything on normal settings though. I've got an LT with AP8 code for the remote start, and had the dealer install the remote start last week. Not sure if this extra info helps or not. Thanks to everyone so far for the replies.

So what were your results? My HVAC doesn't come on either if I remote start the truck. I might have read somewhere that the HVAC will only come on if you leave it in AUTO. Is this true? If so, then that is idiotic because it's just one more thing to remember to do before you exit the truck. Also, I hate the AUTO mode because the fans are on full blast until the temperature levels off.

I had the remote start programmed by the dealer, but the heater & A/C never worked when remote started.

I am pretty sure this feature only works with the auto A/C unit, not the manual one.

My dash is completely dead until I put the key in & turn it on.

Same here. Heated seats come on but no blower motor. The controls for HVAC aren't lit up whether I leave it on AUTO or not. Tonight I put it on AUTO and put the temp up to 90 so I will see in the morning.

Mine are like Nicks. It auto adjusts to whatever is appropriate ac/heat. Mine is an sle and was "remote start ready" the dealer got me for about 350 I think for the two remotes and the module, but the remotes are long distance compared with the standard remotes. I can start from about 200 feet.

 

I did note if it is very cold, the heat doesn't blow until warmed up? Maybe that is what you are experiencing> ? I mean if I just runin a store and come out and remote start it, it is blowing hot. But if it is overnight etc, it won't because I guess it would just be blowing cold air at you for the first few minutes. For the record if I sit there without turning the key, it will blow warm air, WHEN it senses it is warm

I just recently had the OEM remote start added to my truck.

Mine was "remote start ready" and I have manual HVAC.

The blower motor's speed during remote start is what ever speed it's manually set at.

I usually try to remember to crank the speed of the blower motor when parking.

The truck temp when I started it said 50 degrees outside. I'm thinking a lot has to do with the outside temp and engine coolant temp. Heated seats must come on at a low outside temp and the HVAC comes on when the engine water temp reaches a certain degree.. Must not get low enough in my parts of CA. This is with a factory installed remote start and AUTO Climate.

Thanks... I did have the seats come on one time when it was real cold out but I don't remember the heater blower motor blowing. Seems like it should go to defrost mode when it is real cold out on remote start.

With the Auto Climate Control, the fan won't start blowing until the coolant starts coming up to temp, whether its during remote start or driving with it in AUTO mode.
