hey berteras, don't chop off your factory fog plug! Just in case you ever want to return back to stock (decide to sell or trade-in). What I do on all my installs is cut off the spade connectors off the HID kit, un-tape the wiring behind the factory fog light plug and use wire splice taps and connect the blue(+) wire to the purple(+) and black to brown. I don't know why DDM uses blue as positive and I dont know what GM uses purple(+) and brown(-)

 

 

I already cut off the plugs. If I ever want to get rid of the truck I will just resplice the plugs back on, basically the same thing as putting a half-tap on there. Also my truck had a purple wire and a black one for the fogs, no brown wire. Thanks though

Ok, I finally received my DDM kits and wired it all up yesterday. I did NOT use the wiring harness, ad just so people are aware, those pin connectors on the fog lights are stupid, i cut them off and used some heat shrink butt connectors. I am very pleased with the look/brightness of my 35w/6k lights.

 

Question. They seem to be working just fine w/o flickering and I did NOT pull the DRL fuse yet. Since there is no flickering I am assuming that I do not need the harness. What again is the point of pulling the DRL fuse?

 

If I pull the DRL fuse, is there any way to get the turn signal parking lamps to be lit while driving to act as DRLs?

Its all preference to remove your DRL fuse, but the on/off cycling of the ballasts is what degrade their life. So for that... The main two reasons you want to remove your DRL fuse.

 

1. It conserves the HID bulbs/ballasts life span.

 

2. DRL's doesn't get all 12v from the factory harness.

 

This is why you pull the DRL fuse.

Now I remember, I will pull the DRL fuse tomorrow morning. Now a few questions, I have been noticing some stuff with my lights, it's probably normal but I never paid attention before.

 

1 - Can I make it so my lights don't flash when I hit the keyfob thingy or will they not flash with the keyfob once I take out the DRL fuse?

 

2 - I noticed that my turn signal/parking lamp lights are not lit up when I am driving during the day, but when I turn on my fog lights, they turn on during the day. Is that the way it's supposed to be?

 

3 - I have been thinking of putting in the switchback LED bulbs (Switchback LED bulbs) where the turn signals are, but if I do this, will they be lit up white during the day or only at night when the headlights come on? I was hoping to use these as my DRLs since I will be removing the fuse tomorrow am

The switchbacks will only light up white when the parking lights are lit and flash yellow/amber when the turn signal is on. If you do the DRL conversion then they'll be lit white during the day and as parking lights. Don't forget to add resistors or the LEDs will make you lights flash really fast.

 

As for question 2 yes that is how they function. And question 1 only your marker lights should flash when you lock your doors.

Question:

I am looking at ordering some DDM hid kits for the Denali HD.

What is the difference between the Raptor hid kit (Apexcone raptor v2 mid sized hid kit) and the DDM hid kit slim ballast.

Which is better? I know the Apexcone kits are cheaper.

There's not much a difference between the slim and the Raptor. They are both fully digital (per Matt in an earlier post) and the main difference is the size of the ballast. I got the 5k Raptors and installed them this past week in my lows and fogs and they look great.

so I've decided not to do the switchback LED turn signals. I simply don't have 200 bucks to put into bulbs at the moment and I don't trust my ability to do the wiring that the parking lamp-DRL mod requires so I guess I don't have DRLs anymore, oh well. I really wish I had a few extra hundred k laying around for all my projects I come up with when I'm bored, but then I would probably just end up getting myself into bigger projects than I can handle oh well!

When the HID lights are turned on does anyone get extra static from their FM radio stations. I have heard this from some people who have installed hid kits.

It's called Ballast Whine. Here is a thread on it and at the bottom is a post that I have the parts listed you need to fix it if you get it.

I don't have any problems with my FM, lights and fogs both on and no static or anything.

Thanks for the info, I figured that would be the cure.
