Thinking About A Cam?

Just wandering if anybody has put a cam in their LY6? Is it possible with the VVT or does it not make any difference. I just wanna up my hp and tq a little and not lose any drivability and dependability

I wouldn't think the vvt would affect the cam you would pick, but i don't know for sure. All the vvt does is use the vlom to apply oil pressure to the lifter ports that allow the lifters to collapse inside themselves on the vvt cylinders. I would check with the aftermarket companies that are making the cams for that engine and ask them. Also you will have to pull the heads off to put a cam in  . Have to pull heads to get to the lifters. Thanks gm. lol

wow I didn't know that I had to pull the heads to get the lifters out. Plus after all that work I will have to have the ecm tuned just so the motor will run right. Seems like a lot to do and money for a few extra ponies

Are you sure you aren't thinking of Active Fuel Management? AFM is the one that deactivates 4 cylinders to "improve fuel economy." VVT is variable valve timing, where it adjusts the timing of the valves with cam phasers.

Yah, I don't have AFM it's an LY6 and LY6's have VVT. I was just interested in putting a different cam in my truck to get more power, that's all.

I was thinking the same that he has the "features" confused.

That should be a pretty "streetable" cam. 116 lsa and the durations aren't too crazy. I would like to see/hear from some people who have done this on a stock motor, maybe w/ headers at the most. I would like to do this in my truck, maybe once its paid for. I'd love to pick up 30-40 rwhp? w/ headers and a cam.
