Thanks so much for this post. I had my iPhone programmed before but did a restore last night night and lost my Bluetooth setting for my GMC Yukon. I have been looking all day for the command and this was definitely it. I have a 2007 GMC Yukon with a 2010 Chevy Traverse VCIM, Onstar fully functional and Bluetooth back is back in business.

Finally, I have received my VCIM, which I bought from Ebay. Installed it like described in this topic, including the BT antenna.

Turned on the ignition, pressed the steering wheel button for 2 seconds and the system tells me: "Onstar ready". Then, when I tried to pair my phone, it doesn't understand the "bluetooth" command, nor the "pair" command. It just answers "Pardon?

When I try to pair from my phone, it does see a "General Motors" device to pair with, but when prompted for a PIN, I'm lost, since the system on the car should tell me the PIN during the procedure.

So, I guess Bluetooth is working, but the interface between the VCIM and the car is not. I guess I have VCIM (20787107) that is useless for my car...

Or perhaps someone has a bright suggestion? I am kinda lost here. :lol::D

after you hold the button for 2 seconds, instead of saying "bluetooth", say "onstar" first. After you say "onstar" then try to say "pair" or "bluetooth", i forget which, but that should get you working.

Ok so im reading along and wondering out of all the part numbers installed as upgrades. I have an 09' Silverado w/o bluetooth(go figure) but I am wondering has anyone got blue tooth and/or onstar myli

Does anybody know if part #20833261 will work? It is out of a 2010 Chevy Malibu with bluetooth.

 

The seller lists this:

 

CHEVY HHR 2010 Communication; (OnStar, option UE1), (R Rear quarter trim), w/voice recognition (option UPF)

CHEVY MALIBU 2009 2010 Communication; (OnStar, option UE1), ID 20833261

 

I am thinking that because it has the UE1 and UPF options that it will work, but I would really like to get the opinion of somebody that knows more about this.

hi everyone, i dont have steering wheel controls just onstar mirror controls can i get bluetooth, 2009 sierra thanks for any help.

i have a question : my car is tahoe 2011 and i dont have bluetooth but have the steering buttons

and im not in usa or canada so here there is no onstar.

 

if i do like this topic does it work or no?

Ok, so did a bit of research, installed the vcim# 20787107 w/ BT antenna on my 2007 GMC Denali. Works great! AND...I Have working onstar. I pushed the red button, told her I wanted to test my system, she said that it had NEVER been activated and transferred me to another lady who did. I linked my onstar to my vin# and I was good.

 

Hope this helps. Seems I may be the only one who did this successfully AND posted it....cause I cannot be the first to get this right!!!!

 

Bought it from Source One Auto Parts on EBAY for $250 flat. Included the Bluetooth antenna as well for that price, great seller.

 

Followed your advise and pictures to the letter, GREAT help. Thanks and happy new year!

Have been following the results for this mod for some time now, to see the sucess rate. What I don't get is 4 different part #'s listed in the topic. 20787107, 20842731, 20829984, 20783877, 20756237 OP. Will they all work? I have Bose but no Nav. Which one do I choose?

Where is the vcim on the LT? Is is behind the front console? And does it just pop off like the radio surround or are there hidden screws et cetera?

I changed mine out about 6 months ago. Found this post extremely informative.

I have a walk through of the procedure somewhere if you need it I can try and find it. Also have the list of part numbers that will work. Check my post from page 3 if you need a unit there's contact info on there for a guy who has some.

LEt me know if I should look for the walk through

I am going to try and bring this thread back to life...So here is my question I have an 09 Silverado with blue tooth what my goal is, is to change the VCIM to one that will now give me the option for the onstar remote link app to work as well as continue to use onstar and blue tooth my current VCIM is a 20783877 it is the one that has the three antenna connectors on it. I also have one that came from a 2013 Silverado it is part # 22898335 but it only has one antenna connector on it..Any help you can provide I would be greatful for, Thanks

ANY further updates? on 07-08 with WORKING On* + Bluetooth?

I had a G8 B4 the Avalanche and I bought the VCIM + Bluetooth unit off eBAY for the G8 and they where saying you sent in your USED unit to be "re-greened" IE flashed to NEW again then call On* and they "tether" it to your VIN and all is well BUT a Tethered unit ken NOT be re tethered by GM dealers

 

and on a "SIDE" note I got a mailer from ON* in Canada

to me that sounds like NEW On* hardware is coming out soon + OLD will be "killed" by CELL end of service

Clip the new VCIM back in. Turn on vehicle and test it out before you put everything together. Your mirror LED will be red, signaling OnStar is not connected. (The "emergency" button on your mirror may still connect to OnStar, not sure what happens otherwise) However, OnStar will not get signals from your vehicle, i.e. airbag deployment, diagnostics, and the such. (However if you don't pay for a subscription, you wouldn't get those abilities anyway) But feel free to give it a try.

 

Unfortunately I was able to test this theory, and the bluetooth VCIM still transmits the emergency airbag deployment to OnStar, regardless if its a new VCIM or if you have a subscription (I did NOT have a subscription) and OnStar piped up within a minute after the collision and patched me through to the local RCMP and fire-rescue as I was attempting to crawl out my back door.

Ok time to revive this thread. I have a '08 Tahoe LS and want to upgrade the VCIM to include On* remote link and Bluetooth. What P/n will I need to hopefully get all functions to work?

While not trying to revive anything, wanted to add my two cents. I've got an '08 3/4 ton Suburban with factory Nav and steering wheel controls. I bought 20783877 from an '09 Acadia for $40 on eBay, and just hooked it up. Works like a champ. I have to go through the OnStar menu to get to the bluetooth menu as mentioned above but it paired to my phone on the first try. Interestingly my OnStar still works; green light was on right after I plugged in the new module, so after pairing my cell phone and testing that out, I used the OnStar button on the mirror and it connected me to an operator. Not much I could do without a subscription, but apparently the thing is all set...?

      I certainly could be wrong but I hear of pickups far newer than that 2007 cutoff which may not be going to the wrecker but are having engine work done and be that a reman engine or new engine or trying to repair the existing engine. Some of it would be design issues as per the cylinder deactivation system that GM has and one of those lifters wiping out the cam and the question of oil changes moving the needle or not on that whole mess, or in the case of Ford pickup engines that have the long timing chains and wearing them out and the roller followers and phasers and some of that certainly goes back to oil change intervals. But in those various cases the truck has all sorts of life left in it and so the unfortunate owner and may be original owner or used market owner that is pouring money into repairs so the truck is not seeing the salvage yard yet but damage is happening by infrequent oil changes. A friends son had bought a 2018 I think it is half ton GM and it had some sort of extended or used dealer warranty on it and of course the lifter issue bites and its rattling and so the dealer had to swallow the bill and was at least 7000.00 and I think they only replaced what they felt they had to replace so yeah, I can see that being a ticking time bomb in the not too distant future. Would frequent oil changes cure all these engineering "marvels", probably not but some engine designs have shown that they do much better if the oil is changed a lot more often then if the manufacturer service claims are followed. New trucks cost so much that there is an incentive to keep the existing truck on the road by repairing.

      get a good code reader, and find out what problems the truck has noticed by reading codes. cheap ones can only get basic engine codes, you may want to get one that can get codes from all the computers in your truck.

      This is sort of my point, salvage yards aren't overflowing with all these 'poorly' maintained trucks - excellent/good/servicable condition otherwise, salvaged only as a result of a bad engine from poor oil change regiment.    In my area, there are no 2007 to newer gm trucks/suvs in any salvage yards. A few are in the 'recyclers' with very obvious reasons for being there - wrecked.

      Stabilitrack was a stability control, traction control system, that functioned independently from the transfer case.   Z-71 has nothing to do with the transfer case or differential.   If it does have an AWD system, my memory recalls this being specific to the Denali trim, converting won't be as simple as swapping out mechanical parts like differentials and transfer cases. It will require reprogramming at a minimum. Long story short, not likely worth it.   Pulling a fuse, may disable the AWD system, it might also prevent any other transfer case functions.   However, the AWD case was generally based on the same transfer case you refer to in the 2006 Suburban. If it still has a 4-High and 4-Low where the transfer case locks and splits power 50-50 front to rear, what are you gaining by changing anything? A true-rear wheel drive only, what good will that serve? Not enough to go through the trouble of changing out all the parts.    Generally, all the factory systems will handle a 33" tire and re-gearing. Probably a 35" tire too, if you aren't driving like a caveman. If 35" tires are in the plan...   If you do plan on driving like a caveman or are fully committed to 35" tires, an entire re-think of the build is probably in order. Starting with square one, an IFS front end isn't going to be the best starting point for 35's and caveman driving.

      1/2 qt over full ain`t gonna hurt $h!t. Most times, a whole qt won`t either. Most have windage trays now. As long as the crank isn`t slapping itself in the oil, it`s not the end of the world.   We used to overfill 1 qt at the track, at race time. Better to have it over full than having the pan sucked dry at 6500 rpm`s.
