I have the 01 Silverado ExtCab 4dr LS with the cloth interior and overhead console minus the digital compass/fuel calculator like my wifes Astro has.  Any ideas for that space?  Cost to put the compass/temp/fuel gauge in from the factory??  Curious...

Yah, I know what you mean. about the blank space. Our Bravada has a bunch of reads in that place. On my truck, Onstar is packed into that space so I cant really get anything in there. Any one else done anything with that space?

I put the display for my cd changer up there.  Here's some pics.  http://tommy3z71.homestead.com/cd_changer.html  The changer has a wireless remote with it.  I got it in '95 and originally had it in my '91 Silverado.  I fabricated a new panel out of a piece of balsa wood.  I wanted to use the original plastic panel, but couldn't order a new one from the dealer without getting a whole center console.  I didn't want to cut a hole in the only one I had incase I ever took out the changer.  I'm going to try and find one in a salvage yard one of these days.

I had originally thought of some switches in case I added some lights sometime in the future.

Good luck.

Some good ideas.  I like the center console, but it just doesn't contain the functionality that I would like to have.  I don't have a garage door to open, sunglasses to carry or the need for a little tissue box.  It would be nice to have a hide-a-way radar detector spot or some other neat item in the overhead.

You might be able to find aftermarket compass or temp guage to fit in a space like that.  And if you can't you can buy the complete mirror from a place like www.jcwhitney.com for something like ?.
