Got The New Truck Finally! What To Do Next?

So I finally recieved my 2011 GMC Sierra 1500 Ext Cab 4x4. Its Storm Grey and so far I love it! There is a few complaints like the rear doors can be a bit noisy in windy conditions on the highway, but for the most part everything is better than expected. This is my first new vehicle and GMC did a crazy job with their incentives which twisted my rubber arm. The sticker price was $39,XXX CDN plus tax and I ended up paying $23,XXX plus tax at the end of the day!!! WOW!

Anyway the time for modding has come, as I can never leave anything else well alone. First on the plate is a spray in Line X liner for the box, that should be happening next week or so. Secondly will be some sort of molded mud flaps, which I will probably scope out at the dealership, unless someone else can recommend a superior brand? Also I would like to pick up some tubular step bars. Here is where the tricky part comes in. I cannot decided on chrome or black. Part of me wants to go with black rims down the road and "black" the truck out. Although chrome would also look great at my previous ride (06 trailblazer) was metallic grey with Chrome 20s, and Chrome step bars. Since I won't likely pick up any new rims until the summer I will have to make the decision with the step bars, what do you all think? I kind of like the RBP tubular step bars, so something in that style would be excellent! I also want to pick up some over the bed rail moulded plastic protectors as soon as possible, and maybe install them after the Line X is put in.

Other future plans include tinting the side windows, Putting a Double Din DVD screen in the dash, and upgrading the speakers/adding subs (I'm and pretty big audiophile). Also when it comes time for the rims I will have to decide on a leveling kit or possibly a 3" lift or so.

This truck is primarily for quadding/motocross use, so what other mods would you recommend, either visual or fuctional? I want to look and sound good as well as be useful while playing in the mud, snow and dirt!

I think black would look good with the storm gray. Go with the black GM molded splash guards and then get the nerfs you like in black. Then you're good to go with the black rims down the road. The black bed rail protectors will look good too! Completely different vehicle, but my buddy put some black rims with snow tires on his wife's gray 2010 CTS and with the tinted windows that thing looks mean as hell!

FWIW, my wife and I think the gm truck is more quiet than the titan we had previously.

I have never owned anything but GMs, however this is the first extended cab with opening rear doors that I have had. Irregardless I would always buy GM.

Yeah I am leaning heavily towards the black out! And pictures are coming soon!

Sounds nice! Get the weathertech No drill splash guards. Truly a great product. Chrck out their floor liners too. If you have a bench front seat they just came out with a mat that goes all the way across the center hump. Have fun!

Did I read that right? Total discount of $16K cdn (41%) off sticker for a 2011? Was that the GM "sticker" price, or had the dealer put extras on?

im in the market for a GMC 2500 HD and am very interested in how you got so much off?? by the way congrats on the truck any pics?

I'm also interested in how you got such a discount. I ordered mine 2 weeks ago, and GM was giving $6500 off. I checked the GM Canada website today, and I see it's up to $7500. How in the heck did you get $16k? My truck is coming in at just under $50k MSRP - I could use some extra discounts!

Yes you read it right. Here is the website for the dealer where I bought from. Capital GMC Regina, Sask.

MSRP was $39,750 + tax (the GM window paper also shows this price), Internet Sales price was $32,250. So I called in to the dealer and asked them to price out the ride for me. I know that I also got $1000 Holiday cash, $1000 Brand Loyatly, $3300 Recycle your ride (traded in my 1976 Ford 3/4 that I bought for $300), $1000 for financing, and also a GM Incentive which was substantial. The only extras installed on the truck was the bluetooth device, and the hidden hitch. All said and done my final price was $28,858 taxes paid (which was over $3000,00 :loser: ).

Congrats on the new truck. I got near $9000 in discounts off my ordered 2011.

That's more in line with what I'd expect. Basically, invoice + rebates/incentives. The OP had a "trade in", and also the final numbers don't seem to match (or I'm misreading). "Out the door" of $28k minus $3k taxes == ~$25k cost. Add in the ~$3k "cash for clunkers" deal, and you're at ~ $28k. Still, a total 28% discount for the OP was a good deal, and something to be happy about.

Part of the new "discount schemes" is smoke and mirrors, as GM increased their base pricing quite a bit since 2007/2008. My exact same truck today stickers for ~$4k more than in 2008. The only additional standard feature has been side air bags, which cost ~$200 (the 6-spd auto costs the same as the 4-spd). They have also deleted some content since then, so it's probably a net sum zero cost change. Personally, I strongly dislike pricing/discount gimmicks, but every retail industry uses them to some extent.

    • My 2025 Silverado 1500 had to receive a brand-new engine (long block) under warranty last month at only around 16,500 miles. Before the replacement, the truck repeatedly displayed "Engine Oil Level Low" warnings, even though the Oil Life Monitor still showed around 50% remaining after about 6,000 miles since my last oil change. After seeing the warning several times, I checked the dipstick with the engine cold, and the oil level was completely normal. The next day, the message escalated to "Add Engine Oil." At first, I assumed it was just a faulty oil level sensor, so I brought the truck to the dealership. After inspecting the engine, they found internal cylinder wall scoring and ultimately replaced the entire long block under warranty. Before this happened, I was planning to install a 4-inch lift and suspension upgrade on my truck. After needing a new engine at just 16,500 miles, I honestly don't see the point anymore. I also contacted GM to ask whether my vehicle qualified for a buyback, but I was informed that it does not at this time. Anyway, this experience has left me with serious concerns about the long-term reliability of this engine. I sincerely hope NHTSA expands the current investigation or recall to include 2025 model and performs a thorough inspection of affected vehicles. My biggest concern is that these engines may fail shortly after the powertrain warranty expires. If GM truly stands behind this engine, then at the very least, please consider extending the powertrain warranty to 10 years for affected owners. That would go a long way toward restoring customer confidence.
    • Without exception but then I'm the odd duck, right? I know what goes into that test, how it is calculated and thus how to beat it. But EPA values are often not beaten by the general public and the government has in past years adjusted the means and methods to come to those values to more closely approximate "Joe Average".    The only real trick to beating that EPA average is don't drive like "Joe Average".    It's the same method you used to profit from "Economic Migration" and in doing so beat the 'stats'. But you, like me, are not "Joe Average".     The thing you don't seem to grasp is this "Purchasing Power Index" isn't forward looking. It doesn't predict what it going to be but looks backward and states what it was. They are not telling us what the THINK, they are telling us what they MEASURED. Example:    Wife says "I'm going to lose 40 pounds by Christmas". May she does, maybe she doesn't but the doctors office who weighed her when she made that statement and again at Christmas only REPORTS what the RESULT was. You and I can banter about what was possible and what aunt Tilly did till the cows come home but the result is the result. Arguing otherwise is.....irrational. That's all I'm saying. This isn't about:      What you are calling a 'Statistic' is a RESULT not a CALCUATION and as a result the RULE. Like gravity as a rule, it can not be broken.
    • Just wanted to say thank you for posting this. Years later, your thread is still helping Silverado owners.   I bought my 2025 Silverado 1500 in January 2025, and I've had what feels like the exact same rattle since day one. After reading your findings, I believe my truck has the same issue with the cable carrier contacting the rear sliding window. To be honest, I had pretty much given up on pursuing the issue. It wasn't until I recently drove another brand's pickup that I realized just how quiet their cabin was—and how noisy mine has been all along. On my truck, the rattle happens on almost any paved road, gets even worse on rougher pavement, and I can even hear it during braking and acceleration.   I actually referenced your thread when submitting my case to GM, hoping they'll recognize this as a recurring issue instead of treating it as an isolated incident. The reason I reached out to GM first is because my dealership told me they would need to keep the truck for at least two days just to diagnose the problem. I was concerned that even after two days, they still might not be able to identify the source of the rattle before giving the truck back to me. I had also asked a few dealerships about this issue during previous service visits, but none of them seemed to know what was causing it or had a solution. That's why I decided to contact GM directly first, hoping they might already have an official repair procedure or guidance for this issue.   I also hope GM eventually comes up with an official fix for this problem. I have a feeling there are many Silverado owners experiencing the same rattle, but most either choose to live with it or simply don't know what the cause is.   Really appreciate you taking the time to document your diagnosis. Your post is still making a difference years later.
    • I have 2 choices.
    • Do you have access to BP fuels? Some stations have Silver 91 E-0 priced the same as their 93 E-10.  There is a local Marathon with 90 alky free for $6 a gallon but I go down the road to BP for $5-ish. They also have a 100 E-0 but that stuff is $10 a pop.
