I have a 2010 Silverado, its a real pain to park this thing and reversing in seems to be the way to do it but I can't tell when to stop and so would like to install a backup camera. I would preferably like to put in an OEM unit with the screen in the mirror (mine doesn't have navigation). Is there a kit somewhere that will allow me to do this and still maintain the auto dimming feature of the mirror

GM offers an accessory kit which includes a new mirror with a screen. Your truck needs to have the Comfort and Convenience package (YE9) for it to work, I believe.

I took this from the GM Accessory web site:

For Use on Vehicles with Locking Tailgate (A60), Non-Navigational Audio Systems (US8, UUI, UUJ, or UUN), OnStar (UE1), and Comfort and Convenience Package (YE9)

19172557

$ 999.00

For Use on Vehicles without Locking Tailgate (A60), But with Non-Navigational Audio Systems (US8, UUI, UUJ, or UUN), OnStar (UE1), and Comfort and Convenience Package (YE9)

19172558

$ 999.00

Here's a good thread on the subject also

Definitely a great feature to have. I have the camera in the mirror in my new truck and it works very well.

$1000.00?!?! I think I'd just go by some orange cones and practice a lot! Wow! :rolleyes:

I was in Pep Boys the other day and they had one with a bigger screen than the mirror (I have the one in the mirrror in my new truck) for about a $100 i think. Thinking about putting it on my mother's Suburban

That sounds a lot better than the $900+.. I guess I either really cheap.. or have been a truck driver for close to 25 years or both. :sigh:

30 bucks buys you a nice reciever and hitch ball, drive by brail like some of our wives do :rolleyes:

check ebay, for 100 or less you can buy a decent kit, spend a little more get something nice, but giving gm a grand it outrageous

The OEM one came on my LTZ and it cost $450. Man, it is sooooo handy and the picture in the mirror is incredibly clear. I never use it with out thinking to myself, "Man, I'll bet the rear-camera saves lots of lives ... baby's and small clild's lives."

It's worth almost any amount, if the quality is superb, which the OEM unit is.

Just finished the install on my 2011 CC. You can buy the mirror on ebay, and the camera kit at many websites, such as the camera source. Should be able to get all your parts for around $400 or less. Definitely gives peace of mind when little feet are around.
