Noisy Power Window

Recommended Posts

08 Silverado driver side power window, ONLY going down it is very noisy, and today is the first time I have heard this. It sounds like a grinding noise almost.

Also, it is really cold today, for my area. In the mid to upper 20's. Could the cold weather have a affect on it? Any ideas?

The grease on the window motor's gear might be stiff from the cold. I'm not sure if you can take the paneling off and easily access the window motor or not. If you can get access to it, you can put some low temperature bearing grease on the gears.

Mine does the same thing too. Once it hits 45* or warmer it stops. It's the window felt that is making the noise, not the tracks or the gears. Atleast on my truck.

Mine starting doing that so I greased everything that I could and it still did it.

Yea, from what I can tell, it's not the gears. I sounds like the window is rubbing hard on the weatherstripping or something. Like the weatherstripping is too hard and stiff from the cold weather.

My 08 does it as well. It has been to the dealer 3 times. Last time it was fine all summer. It now squeals going down again now that it is cold here. 4 degrees this morning!

There is a TSB for this I think. My 09 was at the dealers for this a couple months ago. They greased both sides. Search my post I made a YouTube video of this just in case the dealership didn't believe me.

Yes there is. Just had my 08 done recently.

Do you have a link to the video? Mine is making a squeaking noise on the way down. Does anyone know what they are greasing the tracks with? Are they greasing the track near the rear door edge to make it go away?

That is exactly what it sounds like, I even checked the glass for scratches. And I have rolled the windows down before on 50+ days and never heard anything. I went through the drive through today and it did it so I tried it a couple more times when I got back to work.

Quick question...I bought the truck used. It's an '07. Will the dealer grease the tracks for free or will I have to pay? I guess the question is do I still have a warranty? It has less than 50k on the odometer. Sorry if the question sounds dumb. This is the first truck I have ever had that is this new that may still have a warranty.

Typically no, its no longer covered. Its based on 3 years from your vehicles 'in service date'. Mine is July 2007, therefore bumper-to-bumper expired in July 2010. I too have this squeal to fix.

You should still have a powertrain warranty, but not the bumper-to-bumper warranty - it's 3 years, 36k, I believe.

Had the same on mine, they regreased it last winter, noise came back this winter. The tech thought it was the retainer clips causing the problem. I have an extended warranty, and they were able to get a whole new power window assembly repair covered. It seems better than new now.
