Short Bed Storage Solutions

So I got rid of my 95 k3500 8' bed dually and now have this '02 2500hd with the 6.5' bed. As you can see in the photos the toolbox takes up a ridiculous amount of bed space. This is my 1st shortbed truck and I love everything except the short bed. I need more bed space!! Another longbed truck is a few years away.

NE Ways I was wondering what the rest of you with short bed trucks do to store all of your crap ie tiedowns, trailer hitches, recovery straps, etc.

I dunno man, I waited forever to find my truck in a long bed, it's like they don't wanna make 'em anymore ... Mine is a 1/2 ton which I think was even harder to find in a long box ...

On the bright side, at least you didn't get the 5' 6" bed ..

i went from a 99 dually ECLB to a ECSB 1500.. i usually just leave all of my straps in a crate under my backseat... hitches and whatnot just stay in the bed

I cant see your picture because of the stupid filter here at work (I know that sounds bad that I do this at work), but Im gonna put my $.02 in assuming whats pictured. I ran a 24"w deep box on my 06 2500 CCSB and I didnt really like how it went all the way down. I had tons of space in the box, but I couldnt even fit a 2x4 underneath it. So, if you are running one of these boxes, Ide switch to a smaller toolbox. Ive got a 24"w box on my 05 ECSB now that has about 9" of space underneath it. I like it alot more and it still has room for my socket sets and stuff. The only other option that I found was to go extreme and get a super tiny tool box. I bought one that was 8" wide and about 10" deep. Yes, it was a cross-bed toolbox. It was great because it took almost no room out of my bed, and if you just want to carry straps and small items, this thing works great. But, It wont hold much else, and I ended up paying just as much as a full sized box. Click the link below and look for TBS-69-SL-LP[

Behind the seat isn't much of an option. I always have car seats in there.

good thread. I have the same issue. here is my solution and I can't say enough good about it. The only drawback is that I cannot get into my toolbox without attaching the front. I can actually get a hand in there to get a tool but if I need to look or get something large out it has to come open. anyway, I love mine.

I thought about one of those, but opted just to mount an old Ammo Can back there. It doesnt hold much, but it was only $10. I carry a can of WD-40, wasp spray, a Buck Bomb, and a can of something else that I can remember right now. You could fit a few straps in there. A few self tapping screws mounts it in there. If I got one of those, Ide get the one that has rolling drawers in it.
