Gvrw And Hp Question

Recommended Posts

According to brochure, for the 2011 HD trucks with the 6.0 motor. If you have <10,000 GVWR then you get the 360HP motor, if you have >10,000 GVWR then you get 320HP motor.

Question; I have 4WD Ext cab, the GVWR is listed right at 10,000 pounds, so what motor is in there? How would you tell? and why is the heavier truck given a lower HP rating anyway?

I did not notice this when I was reading up on my truck, but I doubt the sales guy would have known anyway.

Any thoughts.

Thanks,

Is it really 10,000lbs?

Reason I ask is based on this chart from the order guide: http://eogld.ecomm.gm.com/NASApp/domestic/...e=5&butID=3

The chart shows the chassis codes on the left.

TK20903 - regular cab long box 4x4

TK20753 ext. cab short box 4x4

TK20953 ext. cab long box 4x4

TK20743 crew cab short box 4x4

TK20943 crew cab long box 4x4

The 10,000lbs GVWR only appears to be available with the 6.0 for TC20903, which is a 2wd regular cab long box. The only other way to get that GVWR is with the LML duramax, on any configuration bigger than a regular cab, both 2wd or 4wd. For both the ext. cabs, the GVWR would be 9500lbs.

The 6.0 unless you ordered the truck without a bed would be the 360hp variety. As for the ratings, only thing I noticed is that the 360hp is rated at 5400rpm, while the 322hp is rated at 4400rpm. Torque is the same.

Is it possible I am completely wrong about the gvwr? Sure is...
