Going On A Trip To Mexico In March...

Quite a few months ago my girlfriend decided to book a trip for the two of us and a few of her friends. Soon after it seemed like more and more tourists were dieing over there each day. Its too late to drop out now, the trip is already paid for. I know not to roam the streets, but when that resort "blew up" a few weeks ago it has got me worried ever since.

They would slit your throat for an aspirin if they thought they could sell it for a penny profit. But then again, I'm paranoid.

I mean its not like we are staying in some cheapo motel downtown Mexico, its a nice resort. But then again, Mexican resorts like to blow up spontaneously.

I don't know. On one hand, I think its crappy to lose all the money you put out for the trip. But on the other hand, is it it really worth taking a chance at getting robbed or even killed just because you already have the trip paid for? I would talk to your travel agent and see if there is any way possible you could get at least a partial refund or change your trip to somewhere else instead of Mexico.

Where at in Mx are you going? Are you flying or driving? Is your group larger than just you and friends? Are you going to be at a resort with other tourists?

Mya Riviara is where we are going. We will be flying with a group of about twenty of us. Its on a good sized resort with at least 10 other 5 star hotels on it.

I wouldnt be worried. Just go but stay aware of everything. If you can change the date, or switch to somewhere else then I would do that, but if not I would just go and have fun. Dont go any place that doesn't seem right and def do not let the girls go off. Is it all inclusive?

yup all inclusive. I wouldn't be going if it wasn't!

Then you dont need your wallet or anything. they have no reason to rob if they dont see a girl with a purse or a guy with a wallet. Just go have fun

hey i just got back from there. there is nothing to worry about. no different then walking in an urban US city. just use common sense. thats the problem with the media. All you hear about is the bad. Never the good. You will have a great time

My wife and I went back in '06 by ourselves. We stayed at Aventura Spa, all inclusive, no one under 18 years old. Best trip I have taken and would do it again in a heartbeat. Only thing I would do different.....is do more of the excursions away from the resort, and possibly take some friends. Go enjoy yourself . The thing that shocked me the most, was all the poverty that you'll see on the way to the resort from the airport, we landed in Cancun.

Just stick to the well known tourist areas and don't go exploring outside of them unless your packing...

My wife and I went down last May I believe and it was just after they had found 6 bodies in a cave tortured and 2 had their hearts ripped out. I was on alert. I told her I am bringing my knife at least. We went on a cenote swim and shopped. I was not as worried after a little while. In fact after we did the excursion, I felt really good about our trip. We stayed at the Riu in Playa Del Carmen

I go to Mexico about once a year and there is really nothing to worry about. Just use common sense and don't travel away from the resort on your own.

alright, I've looked up travel advisories and reviews. looks safe. I guess I'll have to avoid walking alone down dark alleys at night
