I have an 09 Silverado LT

Auto trans ( not the 6 spd)

5.3 V8 (not E85 flex)

3.92 gears

Extended cab

K&N drop in filter

Flowmaster supper 44 catback single

I took it to the track 2 days after I brought it home and wasnt impressed because of the throttle response and torque control but overall I love the truck. It beats the crap out of the 04 Ram I had witht he hemi in it. I just want it to run like a Chevy should. It runs like a scalded dog at 20 punch but that doesn't help me kick my brothers ass on the track in his 05 VMax Silverado. He has a Diablo tune and full Flowmaster Duals from the headers back. I have my work cut out for me. I have $300 to get me started and I am fairly decent with a wrench .

1- Longtube headers

2- Diablo Preditor HHT (let Lew send a custom tune)

3-Custom tune by local guy thats highly recommended

4-150 Shot of NOS (sneaky Petes dry kit)

Oh yeah, I am married with 3 daughters. Thats why I can only sneak $300 out for now.

You gotta start somewhere :help:

IMO I would start with a custom tune. I, along with many many others, have a Black Bear tune. Made a vast improvement over stock. If you ever put long tubes, a cam, or anything else on the truck he will re-tune it for you.

After reading up on several posts I believe thats the plan.

I may go with a tuner and add the custom tune later so that I can go in and put the stock tune back if I have any warranty work done.

My neighbor has a Dakota R/T thats far from stock but his buddy has the LStune and made a 2010 4 door 1/2 ton with CAI and flowmaster catback on it run 14.88 in a 1/4. I believe thats what I am looking for. Plus he is local and easy to get in touch with.

I have read their site front to back and would love to go with them but I have a wife that I think is part bloodhound part beauty queen. She can shure spend the cash but she can also sniff it out when I get my hands on it. :P

The real reason is we are saving up for a trip for 7 to Disney and she rat-holes every dime we make.

Thanks for the advise and I'm sure I will in the end go with blackbear. It may just be next year.

I'm not a huge "MOD" guy because I use my truck every day and need it to be a truck, but I also want to be able to play and have a little fun in it also. I put around 15k to 20k on it a year in miles and from experience the mod parts just do not last as long as the bowtie one do. I like to be able to drop off my 7 year old at school in the morning and then go to the locl track at night and light it up on occasion. I also drive 160 miles one way to get my 14 yr old every other weekend.

Well thats the story on why I want a good tune but not a "hot-rod" tune. I need to have some fun but also need the milage.

I drove mine 25,000 miles last year, it is my daily driver, I pull a boat in the summer, and 4 wheel in the winter when we have snow. I wouldn't consider it a hot rod tune. :P

I understand the money issue, trust me. I was just giving you a place to look into.

Thanks.

I can afford it, I just dont want to have to wait and slip a few more bucks away to do it so she don't figure out what I'm up to. LOL

I spoke witht he guy here locally and he said he can make me run in the 14's all day on a 93 octane tune and maybe even on 89 if the weather is right . :P

Tune, cam and headers should get you there. The spray will be an added goody, I personally would go with meth over NO though. I am doubting that just a tune will take you into the 14s.

Dont burst my bubble man. :P The track here in Temple doesnt open till Feb 18th

I believe I have decided on the Diablo Tuner for now just for the plain and simple fact that if I NEED to go back to the custom tune real quick, I can do so.

Next question, same topic. Can I get a Black Bear tune uploaded to a Diablo tuner upgrade or does it have to run over EFI live ? :D
