Cold Air Filter Vs. Stock K&n Filter Replacement

Contrary to popular belief it won't improve MPG. The computer will maintain the same air/fuel ratio regardless of the filter you have.

absolutly correct with computer controled engines the mass air flow meter will adjust for the amount of air that is coming in. It will however provide you with more power because you will be able to get more air in the engine faster. Keep in mind that the leading cause for killing mass air flow sensors is over oil saturated after market filters.

MPG make sure tires are inflated make sure everything is properly maintained and keep your foot off the floor. But who has any fun with that?

Unfortunetly, the two posters before me are correct. The K&N air filter is a quality product but it wont increase MPGs or power, not noticibly anyways. On top of that, they almost always let more dirt into your engine because they simply can not filter as well as a thick fiberous paper filter. There is also the other possible risk of the filter being over oiled and coating the MAF which will throw a check engine light. The only possible benefit from the K&N air filter will be you MIGHT notice your engine is a touch louder with it installed.

For air filters, I recommend you stick with OEM or high quality replacements. Napa Gold (wix is the same thing) and Purolator Pureone are probably the best, easy to obtain air filters. STP, FRAM and other less expensive filters work too I just choose not to use them. I hope this helps.

try the gm performance cold air intake..the filter does not require oiling and it won't void the factory warranty..had one on my 07 avalanche before selling it..loved it!

Mark,

do you know if this filter can be used in the 6.2l??

Does GM ship those parts overseas?

I do believe they will fit the 6.2L also, you may have to find a vendor on ebay or elsewhere to ship overseas.

As the others said a filter, or even the whole CAI will not increase you MPG's or at least a noticeable amount.

If I were you I would take the money you were going to spend on that intake and give Justin over at Black Bear Performance a call, he will be able to really wake your truck up and can help you get some MPG's also

Yes, I've got one on mine and I love it!

People BLINDLY recommend K&N filter but with the long service intervals on vehicles the paper filters are pretty large.

I remember back a number of years ago I had a K10 with a 305 that had the 5.5" tall 14" round stock filter and everyone kept telling me to get a K&N. Common sense dictated that little 305 did not need a freer flowing filter with the shear size of the stocker but that can't stop marketting mentality.

The GMPP model will fit the 6.2l engine. Unfortunately, the 2009 - Present model trucks require a different part number than the ones prior, due to the change in design on the Mass Air Flow sensor. GM decided to discontinue the one for the newer model for some reason, and all existing supplies seem to have been depleted.

I was lucky enough to find one for mine, but I think I got one of the last 10 or 15 that were available, and the rest went very quickly once the few remaining were discovered.

With all of that said, the only benefit I have seen was appearance, which is why I bought it in the first place.

700sportsman is correct on the fitment and ebay..however f.y.i. the gm cold air intake off my 07 avalanche did not fit my 2002 sierra although they had the same 5.3 engine..(fan shroud was in the way and too short)..there are two kinds of gm intakes..check with ur dealer for the correct part number and look on ebay..the one that fits my sierra had a longer chrome tube.(see my intake photo).from my experience with the intake i lost 1-2 mpg.but it did breath better and the motor accelerated with less effort..imo..next time u get tires..find a low rolling resistance tire(michilin ltx m/s2) to equal out the mpgs..
